Wow! Just takes my breath away! What magnificent machines and what magnificent men! Do Americans of that caliber exist anymore? Thanks for sharing an inspirational respite! Howard in West Michigan

Wow! What can I say? Awesome machine, awesome guy!

Thank you for sharing that! An incredible story.
Though not up in the air, my dad was in the 231st Bn of Patton's famous "Super Sixth". They were Patton's guys who punched their way through the worst of the worst. My dad drove a tank & was forward scout during the Battle Of The Bulge and was the one of the first into the concentration camp Buchenwald.
My dad never spoke of the war openly. He would answer specific questions when asked. I learned a lot about him over the past several months with the help of the VA & a handfull of people I have located from the Super Sixth who are still alive.
My dad passed away last March very peacefully after a brief down turn in his extraordinary life.
For those fortunate enough to still have them around, ask questions, thank them and be proud.

David

David,

Thank you for your comments about your Dad. The recent book titled "The Greatest Generation" got it right. People like your Dad and many others are the reason that we have the greatest country in the world. You need to write down or record as much as you can about him to pass down to future generations, His great, great, great grandchildren I'm certain will be proud to carry his linage.

WOW! Finally got a chance to sit down and watch this last night.

Truly an amazing confluence of the right people and the right technology at the right time. Not only for the things they accomplished, but for creating a mechanical work of art while doing it.

Incredible people and incredible machines from an America that I fear we will never see the likes of again.

I have always been a civil war and WWII fan.
And the P 51 was my favorite plane. Gotta give them their dues.
By the same token, I feel every generation does what's needed to protect the country, they just happened to be involved in "the big one".
The men and women serving in harms way overseas right now are just as much made of "the right stuff" as anyone in the past...

Absolutely. I have nothing but the highest respect for our servicemen and women. I was referring to the politicians and the general population's inability to face reality and the export of our manufacturing base.

Great video. I see that it has had over 840,000 views. That shows that there are many of us that still care about what has made this country great. That's for sharing.

Thanks Sky. Ya' know, there just aren't that many "feel good" stories around these days....the media just can't find it in themselves to show the better sides of humanity....

You are right about that.

I guess I also could relate to this story as my 87yo grandfather is a retired Colonel from the Air Force. He was pilot class #1 right after they split them off from the army. He flew B52's for years and even carried nukes during the cold war. We don't get many stories from him just as the kids in the video said about their grandfather. Those guys back then just did their jobs without needing the spotlight. They felt it was their duty and they didn't need any thanks. What a difference from most of today's society. I do believe that they were the "greatest generation".

Because I was a pilot for a living I received that video a year ago. I have watched it several times and shared it with many friends. Most of us don't want to watch long videos. Not this one, everyone I sent that to loved it. North American Aviation built some awesome airplanes. Their next one was the F-86 Sabre Jet. An outgrowth of that airplane is the Sabreliner corporate jet. They built this airplane as a miltary trainer. It soon got converted for corporate use. I flew every model of this plane for 30 years. There is no better handling airplane. It was awesome to fly, and the tougher the conditions, the better it flew. The wing, tail, and landing gear of the Sabreliner are the same as the F-86.I have been told that the windshield panels of the Sabreliner are the same ones that are used on the space shuttle. The shuttle was also built by those same folks.:)
