Pictures look like something I would take... :} some on their sides. Also noticed no pics of the engine rooms....

Like the fuel is "over 200 gals".

Course, being where it's located I would have to wonder if there might be hurricane damage to it... I know, I'm being negative on my thinking...

But she is a good looking boat.......

I've been buying/selling on Ebay since Ebay began. But buying a boat on it is something I would never consider...

But that's just me... ;)

eBay has a very nice looking 1966 50' Hatteras motoryacht currently listed for $115,000. Seems to be a well kept boat and, of course, she has beautiful lines.

Anyone interested?

eBay em number: 320222696166

4,500 hours on the 8v71N's. Maybe they're good, maybe they're not so good.

To paraphrase Quint in Jaws "sometimes they go away [engine problems], sometimes they don't go away [sorry, engine problems do not go away]".

Other wise is pretty inside.

4500 hours on Naturals? Almost broken in. Probably need maintenance but should last a while longer.

It does look decent for the money but in today's market who knows what $100k buys. I agree that buying a big boat on ebay is crazy, but where else can you get that kind of audience in such a short time for almost no money? Oh well it didn't sell in the auction listing but now you have a number of interested buyers to work with. Along with the hopefully serious ones there will be tire kickers as well but that's part of the bargain. I wish him luck!

Sky, I don't think the ebay boat would hold a candle to the boat you found in Miami. I guess twice the price gets you twice the boat, well in this case anyway!

It can work just fine. I have sold a few boats on ebay. Good results. I have purchased 3 reasonably expensive cars on ebay. All have been excellent experiences. As you may imagine, everything has to do with the integrity of the buyer and seller.

Dr Jim just sold a Toyota truck on ebay and got very good $$ for it.

When a deal does go badly on ebay, its usually really bad.

Well, personally, I believe that eBay is just a marketing device, similar to any newspaper, trade publication, broker promotion or any other internet medium.

All are caveat emptor, as is everything else in life.

I would never say that I would never buy anything on eBay, and I find that to be a curious perspective. But then, I certainly don't know everything about everything (including eBay) and I am always open to learning something new.

If I were looking for a larger boat (50') with a great heritage then I would certainly look at that eBay boat, and I would most likely much rather have that boat for that money than almost every other trawler or (non-Hatteras) motoryacht that could be bought for a similar amount of money. And those naturally aspirated engines would not scare me off at all, subject to survey of course.

All in all, that 50' eBay Hatteras seems to me like it might be very much worth considering.

Disclosure: I have no financial or legal interest in the boat, I do not know the owners, and I have never seen the boat. Just thought the HOF members might be interested in seeing what's out there.

I bought a Bonanza A36 on ebay, no broker fee, no lying brokers, owner had just put a new engine in and then failed his physical. Worked out for both of us.

That takes balls. Did you do the deal subject to pre-buy inspection?

I think my first plane might be a decathlon. My preference is to go experimental in the future so I don't have to deal with the stupid FAA for parts and stuff, but I'd like to get my stick/rudder skills superb and you can't exactly rent an aerobatic airplane.

I "sold" my '65 Chris Seaskiff on ebay. It got "unsold" when the buyer realized it was in New Haven CT and he was in FL. The ad was clear; he just didn't read it. Now I'm on the hook for a fee to ebay. Yea, I could have sued him, could have trashed him in the feed back, but what would that have gotten me. I just don't use or trust ebay ever since.

Same thing happened to me on ebay with a century resorter. Guy bid it up until he hit the reserve then never paid or contacted. Like you, suing, trashing though feedback is worthless, you can't win in feedback, you trash him, he trashes you, 40 years later it might get resolved, who has the time.

"My preference is to go experimental in the future so I don't have to deal with the stupid FAA"

So you don't think ANYONE should have oversight over pilots/airlines/airplane manufacturers?

My feeling is this: "If there is overflight, there must be oversight!"

If it could fall on my head I want there to be a minimum level of build quality and pilot ability.

I think Krush's point was cheaper parts over on the Experimental side since they don't have to be FAA certified. Anyone who has played around with EAA type flying knows there is still a lot of regulation and FAA inspection. And the pilot certification is the same for Experimental or for Certified aircraft anyway.

The owner suggested a pre-buy, but a friend knew the shop that did the repower and the plane, the price was very good, so you could say it was a gamble. I put in a new leather interior and Garmin's finest comms/GPS. Straight tail Bonanza is a great little plane, cheap to fly and fun.

There are thousands of experimental airplanes flying. They aren't falling out of the sky left and right as the "certified" people would make you think.

The FAA is needed in some regards, but one legally can't put a non-certified wheel bearing on a cessna 150...even though you are just paying twice (or even more) for paperwork.

Most people are ignorant to the draconian rules of the FAA. You really think that just because some governmental agency regulates something it is safe?

I'd rather go up in a 5 year old RV than a 45 year old Cessna anyday.
