  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
43' DOUBLE CABIN (1970 - 1984)
What ever happened to the Great Lakes get together that was talked about last year. I forget who said they were going to head it up. What happened? Is there still time? I'm in the Western Lake Erie basin. Where is everyone else on the great lakes?

I'll host on the Calumet River on Chicago's far south side!
:eek
The old HATT TRICK is sleeping off the trip up from New Orleans for the rest of the year; I asked her about Put-in-Bay and she just rolled her props INBOARD.
 ws

I would strongly support such an event, but cannot this year. Family medical issues have us 'high & dry' this season - and setting my sights on next season. It has been frustrating but I guess these things happen. Next year we would be delighted to attend.

How about next summer at Sturgeon Bay? I have heard that that new Centerpoint Marina is a great place.

Now yer talkin' !! I could sure handle a spin to Fayette from there as well !! ws

Yachtsman Willie,
I could get at least 3 Hatts, maybe 4 or 5 from my marina alone that would go. And,..... Fayette will be on my itinerary too.

Trojan,
Last year Hatteras actually sponsored rendezvous' with the help of a local dealer. This year they quit doing it so we didn't "offically" have one. The 2006 rendezvous was in Charlevoix and the 2005 was in Sturgeon Bay (if my memory is correct). I guess this means that if we want this to happen again, we'll have to organize it ourselves.

I'd be interested but would suggest Mac Island or Mac City after viewing those pictures. I attended a Hatteras Rendezvous a few years ago on Mac Island and had a great time.

I would be interested also and would suggest St. Ignace, they have a brand new marina with excellent facilities. Maybe end of July or first part of Aug?

If we are going to actually do this, it will require advance planning. The State of Michigan harbors that are in the DNR reservation service will take reservations 6 months in advance. I would recommend that we first set a date (probably in July) and then get the reservations in January.

Obviously, Mac Island would be the most difficult to reserve during this time because of the sailboat races. I also do not know if a block of slips could be reserved. We might all have to be ready at 8:00am some morning in Jan and get on the state reservation site for individual reservations.

Mac City or St. Ignace would be somewhat easier, but still we would be dealing with the state. A private marina would be the easiest, but getting everyone to agree on another area or port may be difficult.

Hopefully, everyone that is interested will put in their ideas here over the next few months. Maybe then we will be able to determine what harbor would draw the biggest bunch of Hatts.

I know that I suggested Sturgeon Bay because of idea that it might be the easiest to reserve, but what about Charlevoix or Bay Harbor? Maybe even Harbor Springs if we could get Walstrom (the Hatt dealer there) to help out. Thoughts?

Charlevoix has a really nice new municipal that was just expanded plus there is plenty of room to anchor. No matter what we decide, obviously some will not be able to come based on dates or location.

How about a midway point, like Saugatuck area.
Chris

I will go wherever we have this party, but I would vote for Mackinaw Island as 1st choice, Bay harbor as 2nd choice, Harbor Springs or Petosky as 3rd choice.
I would also be willing to meet a bunch of HOF members somewhere in October/November timeframe to work through the details, split out assignments, etc. With a little preplanning, a few 'right' sponsors we might be able to create quite a party. Maybe a few technical seminars, etc.
Any thoughts? Volunteers?

For those of us coming from Lake Erie, Mac Island would be a great meeting spot. I also would consider Harbor Springs, Bay Harbor or Charlevoix.

Traverse City is really excellent too. Very nice docks and right downtown in a very boater friendly city, park with concerts, walk to everything, etc. It takes you and extra 45NM to run down Grand Traverse Bay, but it's really nice.

St. Ignus is a very good marina, but not as much to walk to. Mac Island - how much fudge can you eat and do you mind that everything smells like horse dung? Been there, done that. I'd prefer Traverse City or St. Ignus.

Any more thoughts on this? If we all want to go to a Michigan DNR marina, we can start reserving slips 6 months in advance. That puts us into July right now. I know that we'll never get a concensus on this, but if you all throw out your ideas, I will be happy to start a new thread with a poll on it. I could list the various locations and then each of us could "vote" on it. That way we could see where the most interest is.

If things work out, I'd like to take a spin around the lake this year. Manitowoc, Sturgeon Bay, Escanaba, Fayette, St.James, Mak City, Suttons Bay (need to get a mass in for dad this year) and any point south that can handle the sub.
Maybe crash the party at the wooden boat show in Grand Haven (S haven?) if thats on this year. Eric (SMOOTH MOVE) might be a passenger. Should have plenty of room!
I still opt for Fayette, as long as you dont mind camping out. Of course with a dock for 10 boats (max) it would be a bit tight. ws

Sky, I think everyone would really enjoy St. James on Beaver Island. It is not as crowded as other harbors and a bit more peacefull. I wish I could be there but my Hat is firmly planted in Miami. My racing sailboat does just that.:)

The only problem with Beaver Island is that we had two boats from our marina run aground trying to get up to the docks last summer. One was a 60C Hatt and the other was a 58 Bertram MY. The guy in the Hatt just backed out and went to St Ignace. The guy with the Bert damaged a prop.

How about St. Ignace? Brand new facility and its centered between both lakes and a good spot for those who wish to hop up to the island or Hessel or DeTour and into the north channel.

Chris

Okay. I started a new thread with a poll question. Just vote for any of the ports that you would actually go to if we set this thing up.
