Do any of you have a GPS with internal antenna? If so...wonder how well it works regarding reception if you flush mounted it?

Its about time for an upgrade and I want to lose the antenna I currently have mounted on the side of the bridge. I'd mount it on the hardtop, but running the wire thru the piping is a nightmare.

Please let me know what you know?
Thanks

The new GPS receivers are awesome. For cleaner looks, My tech has been installing them inside the fly-bridge cowling.
I had a customer with the Simrad display with built in GPS, In his wheel house it worked great.

Unlike the pucks of years ago, the new receivers are super sensitive.

I have a new Garmin at the lower helm on my 53 works great. John

Adding an external will get better reception but do you need it?

Also if you add multiple receivers you need to set them up correctly.

I just fixed a few installs recently where the half assed tech did not set up the system correctly and it was not consistent from screen to screen.

I would worry about the metal counterpoise grid in the hardtop of most Hatts interfering with the reception, but maybe its okay.
