GM Windlass

I have to replace the switch for my GM windlass. Its a GM switch one direction up only. My question is can I add a second switch for power down and is it just a matter of reversing the polarity of the motor? I am replacing the switch because a recent survey showed a slight elevation in moisture around the switch. I removed the switch and did not locate any visible damage but will let it "dry out" this winter.

I'd call Galley Maid for the correct answer. Mine has up and down foot switches and I added a two position toggle switch at the bridge to allow remote operation.
