Could anyone please explain to me about global warming??? I have to have my car tested for emissions every two years. If I fail, I must pay alot of money to fix my car so it will pass OR the state of Illinios will revoke my drivers license, plates on car and etc.....
As I drive down the Highway (trying to avoid potholes) I am blinded by the smoke and fumes from diesel trucks. I know that not all diesels smoke like that.... just look at a Hatteras.
Also, who gave this planet permission to litter the universe? Isnt it bad enough that we have polluted this planet sooo bad that we are running out of natural resources and our air and water arent safe anymore. Now we are also polluting the universe around us. Who said that outer space could be Earths private dumping ground???
Thanks guys for letting me vent and I would love to hear from each and everyone of you. ppat

The way I understand it, gasoline exhaust is a gassy pollutant. Diesel exhaust is a particulate that settles out of the air and lands on the ground, and is much less of a pollutant.

I'm sure others here know more than I do and will correct my simplistic explanation.

As IGGERNANT as I am, I tried to explain that gasoline fumes contain sulphur dioxide were diesel fumes dont. The black exhaust is more carbon particulate than a greenhouse gas thing... EXPERTS???? ws

Are there two states of Illinois? I've never had to have my vehicles inspected. Must be a Chicago thing....

Global warming itself is a natural cyclical process that occurs on the planet. The current issue is whether human-processes are contributing in a measurable way or not. The media tends to present the view that it does contribute. In fact, they sometimes imply that it is the ONLY cause. But scientific evidence shows that the earth has been both much warmer and much colder than it is now many times in its history.

In addition to warming we are concerned about rising sea levels - but much of the USA was under water during previous epochs so rising water levels is also nothing "new" to the planet. The problem is that we (humans) want things to stay "constant" but that's not the natural nature of things.

So again, the question isn't whether there is or isn't global warming/cooling, the question is does human activity contribute to it in any meaningful manner. The most commonly advanced views from the media is "yes." But many scientists say 'No." The problem with the media view is that they frequently tend to show viewpoints expressed by popular individuals as opposed to those who have actual scientific knowledge. It's much more interesting (who knows why?) to want to know what Angelina Jolie or Al Gore thinks about the weather than it is to hear some scientist bore us to death with facts! ;)
