I understand that these controls can be programmed to a degree. I would like to adjust mine to decrease the delay between helm input and actuator response. Is this something I can do myself or is it a service call? How is it done?
 
I believe it depends on which version you have. Check with glendenning.
 
That is one of the common issues I have heard about with all the electronic controls .....Pat
 
On a prior boat I had Morse electronic controls. There was a small delay, but you could get used to it. My hatt is much heavier and already reacts slower, so the glendinning lag is compounded.A guest aboard had glendinnings on his boat in Washington and had someone out to reprogram his with great results. I know it can be done.
 
I don't have any experience with Glendinnings, but on my Mathers Microcommander 585 the delay is intentionally proportional to previous settings. The delay is deliberate to preserve transmission life.

If you command a "through-shift" from ahead to astern, the position of the throttle and the amount of time at that setting command different shift delays.

If you were at idle ahead and go to idle astern, the shift delay is zero (they claim; it is not).

From half throttle ahead to half astern introduces a proportional pause delay of many seconds, but I recall that if you command a full astern in panic mode it will shift right away.

Yours may have such variability.

I have micro-commanders and the shift delay is just part of life. The same delay exists with mechanical controls, but we don't perceive it as much because our hand is moving the valve on the transmission directly.
 
Mine are smart actuator Ii's. If yours are the same then this internet search may help, page 78-79. Short cables and minimum bends as on manual controls will also help.

Actually on capitol gears there is a timing adjustment within the selector valve. It slows up the clutch engagement. While this was on our boat and small in comparison, perhaps there is more to this than meets the eye? See page 28.

This was exactly what I needed. Thank you. The only issue I have is that my controls are 2-button and the diagram shows lights for a 4-button when programming shift and throttle delays. I will give it a try and see what happens. Thanks.
