Well, as it turns out my genset did not run out of fuel as I had originally thought. When I got back to the boat I checked the reset button on the service panel, and it did not appear to have activated the shutdown. I checked the fuel supply anyway and determined that it was o.k. I was getting an intermitent turning of the starter when I hit the start button. Every once in while it would turn the starter but most of the time it was just dead. After tracing the 12 volt wiring to the starter I found 1 of the wires completely corroded through and barely making any contact. This was one of the smaller wires from either the solenoid, or maybe from the shutdown circuitry. Anyway, after cleaning up the original copper connector and reusing to make a good connection ( This was a major PITA, I had to tear out one of the riser steps going down into the galley just to get to the starter ) she started right up and is purring out 120 volts again. All's well that ends well.
Thanks for all the advice I received last week.
