Generator /Transformer question

The last time I used my generator for about 3 days while on the hook in a heat wave with the a/c, cockpit freezer and appliances running often. At some point I could hear clicking from the transformer mounted on the port-side engine bulkhead. This week I went to use the genny and starts-runs like a top but would not take the load when I switched the ac breaker from shore to genny.I have a '83 36 Convertible with a 2006 Kohler 8 eozd,10 kw 3 cyl Kubota with about 300 hours and all the codes were clear on the board showing no issues. Just wondering if anyone tried by-passing the transformer and how it worked for them and if anyone had this same issue, Thanks, Peter

Found the toggle switch that turns on the ac to the dist panel was no good , all set
