Generator sound shield

I have a Phazor gen set on the boat and it has fire-resistant fabric type sound shield. It is a chronic pain in the hips when I need to work on the Gen set. The sides and top are velcroed to each other and supported by a framework of tubes that come apart when you don't expect it and is difficult to work with in the confined space of the generator room. Phazor makes a hard sided shield but is it noticeably better to work around and better as a sound shield? Input would be welcome...thanks in advance!
