Groco Oil Change Pump Rotor/Impeller

Seeing if anyone has experience with the Groco oil change manifolds/pumps. The one on our Hatt is a BMX 3-80 and it has a plastic rotor (what Groco calls it) that actually pumps the oil out of the oil pan on our Detroits. The pump stopped working recently and I found a crack in the rotor that mad it no longer pull prime and pump oil out. I found the replacement parts (picture attached but the rotor has 8 vanes instead of 4 like the one that is in my pump. Wondering if anyone has the same pump and had to replace the rotor. Does the 8 vane rotor work as a direct replacement part for the 4 vane version? Thanks!

Like vanes on a rubber impeller water pump, the more vanes, the better it pumps.
If the extra vanes/blades over tax the motor, you can take 4 back out.
IMO, go for all 8 blades.

Thanks Captain Ralph. I agree with the extra vanes. My hope is the dimensions of the “rotor” are the same as the older version I have that is damaged. Calling Groco tomorrow to see if I can gather any additional info. I will report back.

Get off scamazon and call someone for the right parts like depco in tampa. If you get the right (upgraded if necessary) parts the first time you will save time and money.

I send depco lots of pumps to rebuild or replace because they know what they're doing. Customers don't care if it cost a few dollars more when it works well. They complain if they spent half as much and it fails .

Groco are up here in MD, and can also sell you replacement parts if needed. Depco are a Groco dealer, as well.

What Scott said about online crap. We need 2 new serpentine belts for the Cummins to bring the 34. Home. My son ordered them. Showed up DHL straight from china including a dead bat in the box. Too thin to use. Wasted $ and now he needs to order the right ones. You can save online but make sure you are getting genuine parts.

Thanks. I had never intended to buy the parts I needed from an online vendor that I didn’t trust. I just included the picture of the kit I found online for reference purposes for the post. I spoke with a rep at Depco in Florida and they were extremely helpful. Parts should arrive from them tomorrow. Hoping to have the oil transfer pump up and running shortly so I can get the old girl ready for winter layup. Thanks for everyone responses.

So what is the deal from the original 4 vane to 8 vane, OR did they sell you another 4 vane?

The rep from Depco said Groco stopped making the 4 vane rotors around 2001 and replaced they with the 8 vane version. He said the 8 vane is the direct replacement part. I have about $85 for the rotor, 8 vanes and shipping. A little pricey for what it actually is but priceless because my oil change set up is useless without it.

Depco has gotten a lil pricey (as everything) but there support is the greatest.
They are my go to shop these past 20 years, for many things.
Any issues, they fix it quickly.
Because of their great support, They are still a bargain to do business with.

Please keep us up on how the new 8 vane pump works.

I agree Captain Ralph. I will gladly pay extra for great customer service, expertise and overall piece of mind. Joe, the rep at Depco was very helpful. I will report back with an update after I install the new rotor and do the oil changes on both DD’s.

I'd not refer to them as pricey. I'd call them fair. I don't quite a bit with them (wholesale) and don't find their prices out of line.

Joe F is my current sales rep.
I send him an email thru the night. It may include pictures of some off the wall, partially destroyed, thingie,,, he finds an answer by mid morning, it's out UPS that after noon, in my hands the next late morning.
UPS ground is automatically over night in FL.
Sometimes in my hand before my credit card (on file) is charged.
