  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
54' EXTENDED DECKHOUSE (1989 - 1992)
I took out my fuel floats the other day with my giant 2 1/2" socket and are now preparing to put them back in, what type of thread sealant should i use on the treads of the guages when i put them back into the tanks?

Fuel-resistant thread sealer. Any auto parts store should have it.

They make a teflon type tape that is fuel and oil resistant. It is a brownish/cream color tape as opposed to white stuff you use for water fixtures. Home Crapo or most hardware stores will have it.

NO NO NO NO NO!

Do not use Teflon Tape on a fuel system! Ever ever ever!

Little shreds of it will get loose and into the system. You don't want that to happen. At all. Yes, I know you have filters. Still - don't take the risk.

Get the paste.

It's red-brown sealent (NOT silicone)....permatex #1 I think. The stuff lasts forever in the tube--I've had one in my carry around toolbox for years.

Is that all you have to do to get the gauges out,is just use the socket,no screws etc.

The senders on the '74 58TC are screwed in with 1-1/2 " NPT. A little dope and a snug JUST BEYOND finger tight will suffice. These are the "go to" guys for electric senders. My old ones were rotted off at the bottom from WATER IN THE BOTTOM OF THE TANK!! ws
