Hatteras Model
40' DOUBLE CABIN-Series I (1986 - 1989)
Even before Ike strikes gas prices in eastern N.C. are going crazy. Went up 30 cents per gallon in 4 hrs and now can't get more than 10 gallons at a time! Glad I filled up my 5 gallon jugs last week for the tropical storm. Never lost power so the home genny never used any.

nothing like price gouging. Total knee jerk reaction but what can we do. Smile and pay haji.

It aint Haji. It's the speculators that so many say are not affecting prices. There should have been a lock on price for trading put on yetserday to prevent the gouging. Too bad the ones making big bucks on the speculation have such good friends in power.

price gouging laws are stupid.

Are the price gouging laws for or against? freezing the prices would work. Anyone changing the prices for the extent of the emergency action could be persecuted.

Say what?

I said they are stupid. Who the hell is the government to tell me what I want to charge for something?

Sheesh...... No comment...

This has nothing to do with speculation.

It has to do with 25% of US refining capacity being SHUT DOWN.

Oh, and about half of that is likely to be damaged by the storm too, as they are expecting a 20' surge down there.

You can argue this if you'd like, but its a fact, and there's nothing that can be done about it.

We have refused to build a refinery in this country in 30 years. Nobody wants on in their back yard. Well, now we don't have any extra ones and there's a big fat hurricane headed straight towards 25% of the ones we have. They turned 'em down and secured their plants in an attempt to prevent severe damage (which may or may not do a bit of good, but its better than nothing!)

Deal with it.

They didn't PAY 30c more a gallon when they had it delivered; they are doing it because they can screw people in distress. People who treat other people like that deserve to be a few bullets heavier...

Why is any of the business decisions any of your concern? If you don't like the price they are charging, go down the street!

Heh, flooded plants are a PITA to repair. I was pulling a few drawings for some guys that were working on a power plant that got flooded in the midwest a couple months ago....huge mess. Sometimes it's easier to just tear it down and build a new one---except for that whole permitting thing.

I've held our price @3.95/gal which is where it has been for the last 3 days. The lines are down the street. I think we might run out by close tonight. Hopefully we'll be able to get a load before morning. The hype just leads to the idiots who want to top off that last $10. They wait in line so long that they burn most of that 2.5 gallons before they even get up to the pump. Just go home and buy it when you need it. It won't be that much more and eventually everything here will be back to normal. This stuff just feeds on itself.

It reminds me of Y2K. Everyone had to have a full tank of gas and a nice shiney clean car for the end of the world. I still have no idea why our car wash had such a line that day. Crazy.

I guess CT has not gotten the word yet. No lines, no upping in price.

Just as a hedge, I topped off both cars and put 20 gallons in Jerry cans @ $3.75/gal.

Cecil County, MD, right next to DE and PA line, 3.299 gallon tonight at the Wawa and Texaco right across the street. Stopped and filled up on way to boat, I always coast into this county on fumes, cheapest in the State.

Krush,

I choose to hold such people in contempt, you may choose not to. It is an individual decision and I suspect that neither of our decisions will affect the other's.

A station in Norfolk went from $3.40 to $5.16 overnight. It happened to be in a low income area. Many of these folks run on or near empty and can not get to the more reasonably priced fuel. I understand the speculation that we will have a disruption in supply. Lets see what it is before the crazy run ups. This is HIGHWAY robbery. Think I'll fill the boat in November. I am specualting it will be 3.25 then. (Diesel)

No, status: Not a freaking WHINER. What happened in many areas? Stations RAN OUT OF GAS. That means there is no gas to be sold. So even if somebody wants to spend $100 a gallon, they can't get gas.

MikeP, who are you holding in contempt? The gas station owner like SkyCheney that is going to run out of gas because there is a supply problem?

Are you holding in contempt the fact that the WHOLESALE price of gas has jumped to over $5.00 a gallon? Oh, wow, so we want a gas station owner to sell gas for less than he can buy it..........who's the selfish one now?

As I said, we get to form our own opinions. You have yours, I have mine; we don't have to agree. Clearly, in this case, we do not!

Perhaps we will on some other issue. ;)

Maybe we will....damn those filthy rich independent gas station owners that make huge margins. Who do they think they are? I don't think anybody should be able to pass on costs or charge whatever they want for their product/service.....
