Thought there might be some value in sharing with you our experience last Sunday.

My son and I took the 25' outboard offshore to go fishing. We were about 10 nm south of the islands when the single outboard stopped. I checked the fuel tank and it was 1/2 full. My son started the 6 hp kicker outboard and we headed North at about 1.5kts.

The outboard squeeze bulb had no resistance and I guessed we had an air leak. I went to remove the fuel hose from the Racor and sure enough it was bad at the fitting. I cut off the bad hose piece and went to reattach it. The hose was so hard and shrunken that it would not fit over the 3/8 brass fittings. Fortunately there were 2 pieces of good hose which I was ultimately able to fit together and make it from the tank to the outboard, bypassing the filter.

I guess ethanol did the hose in and made it where it couldn't fit back over the fitting.

May be something you want to check on your outboard before heading out of sight of land.

Regards,
