Does Garmin offer any free updates to their charts? I have a pair of 3010Cs and the chart data is a couple of years old. I use MacEnc on the computer and they provide free updates periodically. With Garmin I see the "opportunity" to purchase and entire new chartset for the area I already purchased a couple of years ago. But I don't see any option to get current data into the system without paying the full price for that chart set.

Am I missing something or is that just the way it is?

Mike i called garman and said i had some problem about the gps being slow .NOT SHOWING IN THE EXACT SPOT AS ACTUALLY THE BOAT IS. .They sent me a insert blue chip and charged my credit card $50.00..Told me if i return it they would credit the card back. It updated every thing ///// I have 3 of the 5200 touch screens and i love them i eaven ran a cord from one to the tv my wife likes watching in the salon of corse it just shows what is on the one unit. Thanks, I'll give them a call. I have no objection to paying for updates but I don't agree with paying the same full price I did when buying the charts for the first time.

Best I can figure from the website they give you a %30 trade in discount off a new chart. I sell my old chips on ebay and look for newer ones on ebay. I've come out even a couple of times. Garmin used to sell a docking port for the old chips so you could download from your comp. The software updates are free its the data they charge for.
