In the Bahamas and my garmin 4212 will not stay on. The screen will light up and then trip the breaker. It will even trip the breaker when it is off. I swapped breakers and it tripped the different breaker. I have a backup chart plotter so it's not critical but would be nice to have the garmin. Any ideas as to what may be causing this. Thanks in advance.

Have you checked the power cord connection where it plugs into the plotter?

we had problems with our 4212,s like yours and found it to be a bad primary fuse. the one that looks like a automotive fuse. it looked fine but when tested with a meter it would only reg half the olms it should. so it would light up but not goto ploter.

If it trips the breaker even when powered down, then the short could be anywhere in the wiring from the breaker to the plotter. To rule out the plotter itself, unplug the cord and try the breaker.
