  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
36' CONVERTIBLE-Series I (1969 -1977)
Finally got a chance to fill the water tank on the 36 and bleed the winterization juice out of the system and now have a "problem". The Galleymaid freshwater pump builds and holds 35 lbs of pressure, but it is building the pressure much, much slower than last year! If I ran the sink last year, the pump would have pressure back in 30 to 45 seconds....now it takes 3 or 4 minutes! It's original and it's 30 yrs old.....is it just shot? Are they rebuildable? I sure hope I don't have to replace it...they are outrageous $$$ !
Looking for any and all $.02....
Thanks
T

I had the exact same problem and bought a new stator from galleymaid for @$50.00. They will ask if the bell housing has 4 bolts or 6. Works great now and it is an easy fix.

Thanks Hal!!!!! :D That'll be great news if it's my problem too!
I'm calling them today.

Also check for leaks in the suction line.

You should also check air pressure on accumulator/pressure tank. Should be around 15 PSI. Then with screw driver press needle valve. If water comes out, tank is bad. BTW, same tank(s) are sold at Lowes (my favorite "boating" supply store).

BTW (again), got tired - very - of tinkering w/ big Gally Maid which in spite of rebuilding pump failed to deliver more than 21 PSI. Jerked it out and installed throw-away Jabsco pump. Works fine.

I have had the motors rebuilt by starter/alternater shops.

Batterys low???

32V pumps hooked up to 12V?
Wiring too small?
"Mystery" resistor in-line with pump supply?
Siezed/dry pump bearing?
Faulty pump assembly-binding shaft?
Clogged pump outlet?
Undersized fitting on outlet?
Evil Voodoo Curse?

If you put a new stator in be sure to put water in the prime plug. I didn't and couldn't figure out why it was barely turning. I opened the prime plug and put water in it and it works great.

I had that same exact symptom happen when a pipe-threaded connection was dripping a little water. Turned out that since it was on the supply line side, it would drip a little water when at rest, but it would let air get sucked into the supply line and therefore the air got into the pump with the water supply and kept the pump from building up pressure.

I tightened it and it has worked ever since.
