  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht

I have been having trouble with my Galley Maid water pump. It has been an on and off frustration. My pressure switch broke while winterizing and I just replaced it with a new one from Raz. Pump worked for about 5 minutes but then tripped the breaker. I reset the breaker but now it trips instantly when I turn the pressure switch to on. Any ideas what could be wrong? I wired the switch exactly as the old one and the pump is new from Raz last year. I also tried switching the breaker with a different one, same issue.
A bit more info, the pump did have a history of tripping the breaker so I replaced it with a new 30amp breaker. Seemed okay? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

The pump is a pretty solid design that literally lasts decades. I suspect that you’re required a rebuild and you only bought it some time by raising the breaker amperage.

The Galley Maid Pump is only a year old. I got a new one from Raz last season, we primarily use dockside water, so it does not get much use. Could it be in the wiring?

Did they replace the solenoid?

Good question. On the GM heads there is an external solenoid, the water pump is direct wired to the pressure switch. I assume when Raz rebuilds them they replace everything. I think it was over $800 for the new pump.

They test but not replace. Have it checked out. I had one go out recently and it kept tripping my breakers. Good luck.

I guess first I would make sure that it isn't a faulty breaker. Next, I would start by removing the stator/rotor and seeing if the motor spins. If you have never done that before, there are YouTube videos available. I don't think the pressure switch would act this way. I have replaced the rotor before, and it wasn't a big deal, just take your time tightening it back so that it seals. I doubt it is the wiring. If the pump was acting up but not throwing the breaker, then it could be wiring.

I had the same issue with my pump. Replaced the breaker and it worked for a bit then began blowing that breaker. I replaced it with a 32 volt Flojet 04405443A . It works great, takes up about a quarter of the space, since it does not need it's own accumulator tank, and only cost $150. And it is way quieter!

Turned out the pump was bad. I had a spare water pump that I grabbed off ebay and it worked fine. It was a new pump so I did not think that was the problem. Thanks Seven for the suggestion, I would have thought they replace everything when they rebuild them. All is well and water system is now winterized. I will have the pump checked locally and keep it as a back up.

Glad you found it.
