  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
53' MOTOR YACHT (1969 - 1988)
So our 53' sits slightly bow down (not a lot of fuel on board and a pretty healthy inverter battery bank forward) and the forward head seat doesn't stay up all the time. I'm getting ready to replace it with a slow close seat from the big box stores because they use a standard elongated seat. Yay! I check for access to the nut on the bottom of the seat hinge...sorry, can't get to it without moving the toilet away from the wall. Arrrgggg.....
Nothing is ever easy.

I replaced all three seats with slow close with no issues. When I get up there I’ll check the brand and text you.

Thanks. Send pic of the access to the nut on the bottom of the hinge also. Elongated_Bowl_Flyer_Page_1.webpElongated_Bowl_Flyer_Page_2.webp

Hi John,
My 79 53' is the same way.
If the bowls are installed tight against the wall you cannot get access to the nuts that hold the lids on.
Those nuts have to be accessed from the back side of the bowl.
When I replaced my seats (with the heads removed) I cut access holes in the bulk head wall of each to get access to the nuts in the future.
This way I will most likely never have to replace the seats again.

This is why I like seeing the year and hull number on all of our signature lines. On this one post we have (3) 1979 53’ MY with hull numbers 563, 566 and 567. Each boat in different parts of the US and sharing information to help owners with similar models. What a great forum.

I have one of the bowls with, as you can see, impossible access to the seat bolts. When one of the plastic hinges broke, I came up with this solution.

No reason this wouldn't work with a new seat. BTW, a bit of JB Weld makes certain the screw keeps a good bite.
