Galley made anchor windlass

I have owned a Hatteras 53' Motoryacht (Lady Barbara) for 19 years and have had sons to manually lift the chain and the anchor on board when all the rope was stowed. My windlass is line-only. If I use chain with a plastic covering can i use this in the same way as line. How much chain is the minimum i can use? Anyone have any ideas short of replacing the windlass?

You should contact Galley Maid for the parts to convert to chain. I wouldn't use plastic covered chain. I don't see how that would work at all. It's too stiff to make a turn around the drum. I have 150' of chain but I would rather have 250' which would be good for your boat. Ron
