  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
53' MOTOR YACHT (1969 - 1988)
The 1978 53' YF I have has had the stove/oven and microwave replaced about 10 years ago.

The microwave is mounted above the stove/oven.

I have discovered that when they installed the mircowave, they did not make any provisions to duct the microwave's exhaust fan. This is an assumption since none of the fumes/steam created during cooking appear to be sucked up into the vents that are at the bottom of the microwave.

I read in the blueprints and owners manual that there is supposed to be a 110 VAC fan in the galley and again based on the prints, I found where the duct exhausts on the galley house outside.

My questions are:

1. Where is the original physical fan located?
2. Where is the on/off switch for that fan?
3. If anyone has replaced or added a microwave in a similar location, how was it vented to the outside?
4. Did you use the existing 110VAC fan and ducting or use the one built into most mircrowaves?
5. How did you attach the existing ducting to the microwave?

Thanks.

Tim

The OEM fan was part of the ModernMaid oven that came with the boat. When that was replaced with the new spacesaver microwave, they should have hooked the old ductwork to the new micro unit. If that did not happen, you may have to remove the micro to get it hooked up. First I would unscrew the wood access panel above and to the port of the micro and look in there.

Hmmm. A couple of lousy pics, but what the heck! 1974 58 TC has a range blower with a filter above the stove, but the blower and access is in the crews' locker. Hatteras gives you a 6" x 6" hole to work in, so ya just know what I had to do!! ws
