  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
40' DOUBLE CABIN-Series I (1986 - 1989)
Went out for a ride Sun and when we got back I noticed a water spill or what I thought was one, on the carpet between the galley and the forward head. It's a 1987 40 aft cabin. Asked the wife what she spilled and got a negative comment saying nothing. As I was cleaning up,the water spot was getting bigger. It's got to be a leak in the FW system however there is no access to it I can find. It's forward of the holding tank, which is fine, just in front of a stringer. as I said it's covered with carpet which I guess I'll have to rip up near the back of the head door. Anyone have this problem before? Any suggestions as to how to access it?

Skip, I would check under the galley sink first because everything is exposed and easy to see. Next check under the vanity in the head. You'll have to remove a panel or two to see in there. Also check under the frig for something leaking under there. All my fresh water leaks were always at the fittings, usually tees. It is hard to see them because they spout a very fine stream that you can't see. Just look for wet spots under them. They are easy to fix with the push-on fittings. Getting access to them isn't always so easy. Wish you luck. Ron

check the siphon break on the back of the head . Also check the water inlet valve. Both can leak.

Is there a shower up there? If so, check the feed lines to that as well.

yes there is a shower. We have the same boat. Pulling up the carpet will not help as there is no access without cutting. To see the flooring situation see the thread on radiant flooring.

Thanks guys, I'll check all the suggestions above. Can't figure where a water line would be in this situation. Maybe as stated it's coming from elsewhere and migrating to that spot!
