  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
53' MOTOR YACHT (1969 - 1988)
Just replaced my 1983 Le Marshe 32v charger with a sterling. The orig had fuses built in to the 100lb unit the sterling does not. Should I use a fuse or circuit breaker type ? This is for the DC side.

I believe there’s a fuse built into the unit, I could be wrong but I think there is.

I don't believe any chargers have built in DC fuses except the little sport ones.

I use breakers most often.

1 each on the positives and 1 on the negative.

Read well the installation instructions or schematics.

For the DCv charger outlets, Later design relies on the installer to provide circuit protection.
On these, You ad a surface mount breaker below the charger to your battery bank(s). Breaker to each bank.
The fuse or breaker rating should be in the installation instructions.

There is a small auto type fuse, book says it’s dc but nothing further also says to add fuses between unit and battery leads.

Thanks to all and a Special thanks to Scott aka Boatsb for some technical help with my install.

I was shocked by the difference in weight between chargers, the new might weight 15lbs the old is close to 80lbs. I was positioned sideways straddling my exhaust etc when the admiral pulled the last bolt out and it came loose from the wall, it almost crushed a few things.
