Hatteras Model
75' SPORT DECK MY (2000 - present)
Anyone know who has the least expensive fuel in the LI Sound /Cape Cod area. We are cruising and will need fuel soon . Right now we're in Martha's Vineyard. Plan is to head back south by going back to Block, stop in Branford and down the East river. We have gotten fuel in Falmouth before ,but I'll deviate to get a decent price elsewhere. I'll probably need a bout 1000 gals ,so every little bit helps. Any help is greatly appreciated!!.........Pat

I presume you need diesel. There are a couple spots on the Mystic River that have fair prices ($3.00 - $3.10). I understand that there is one marina on the Thames River just under $3. I can check another local website for you if you want me to. Avoid New Haven for fuel. They're gouging me $3.69. It is, however, a well protected layover spot with it's three breakwaters.

When are you coming thru? Maybe I'll run out and wave hi!

Interesting - sounds like the fuel prices on LI sound haven't changed a bit since we left in May. That's good, I guess...though going down would be better!

Hey Bob , if you could check other prices somehow that would be great . We will be in Branford on next Wednesday . We'll be at Brewers,Bruce and Johnson ,although we'll be off the boat for at least some of the time we're there, moving my older daughter into her new apt. in New Haven. If we can work it out ,I've do have a few frosty beverages aboard.........Pat

No problem, Pat. I just now put a post up on the CTfisherman site. A lot of the offshore fishermen that I fish with from there come out of eastern CT, and I'm sure one of them will post some good info for you. I'll try to check back tonight and again tomorrow evening. If it is light enough to see the prices on the Thames, I'll check personally tomorrow morning as I'm headed out shark fishing with a friend from Gales Ferry at 0-dark-30.
Bob

this is where i'm glad i'm on the gulf coast getting 200g of diesel for 2.30/g

Sandy Hook, NJ usually has decent prices. Here in Baltimore, expect $2.55-2.70. Portsmouth, VA is 2.42.

Bob

where in seabrook are you getting fuel for 2.30 gallon? I need toget to that marina now, while I'm in the area.

Pat,
I just got back in from sharking off Montauk all day. Slow day - only managed one blue shark, but a real tough one. We fought that fish for a solid hour and three quarters. We were sure it was a thresher right til the end.

Anyway, as to diesel, the Groton Oil and Marina (Phone: (860) 445-5336) on the Thames River appears to be the lowest you will find in the area. They are the last marina on the river (east bank) below the RR and I-95 bridges, and their advertised rate is $2.99/gal at the dock. I understand that they will knock off another dime if you pay cash. They may also be willing to negotiate a lower price for the volume you need if you call them in advance.

It would probably be wise to call them in any event, as I'm not sure how much they keep on hand, given the volume you need.

Seeing the prices above, you may be better just taking on the minimum you need to make it to Jersey and then topping off there. I hope you have a smooth trip.

JEEZ ! Marina gas in Chicago is DOWN to 3.99 for gas and diesel !!
Hazin bin Lucky must be runnin' the places here! ws

Been $2.45 per Gal or less with BOATUS discount at Solomons MD all summer.

Sandy hook is my boating area. They are charging $2.69/gal but you will get 5 cents off if you take over 100 gallons. I was up at Noank CT about three weeks ago and the price was $3.71 but you got 10% off if you were Boat US or Seatow members. Hope this helps.

Ct river the marina Between the bridges west side.
2.99 for diesel and 5 cents of for Boat US so 2.95 for me.

$2.45/Gal here in Boston last week. I fueled up in Plymouth Ma. 2 weeks ago and was charged $2.90 (That was after being quoted $2.35 the previous evening) I guess they figured out that I wasn't a local.
Fred

Thanks everyone who replied . I found that I could get 259 /gal if over 1000 gals in Atlantic Highlands ,NJ,so I will nurse what I have and probably have to pull the sheets off my bed and sail into Jersey. Hope the winds stay out of the North!!. By the way for anyone who may be cruising, I found 279 at Falmouth ,East Marine,no cash or quantity discount...............Pat

Cost of diesel delivered is $2.30 a gallon. So anything over that is what the marina is making. Most of the marinas down here are near cost so fuel is a lost leader. We don't even make enough to pay for the cost of insurance for the storage tanks, much less a profit. We are doing our part to help keep people on the water. We make more money on a six pack of sodas than we do on a whole tank of fuel. The fed and state make more money on a gallon of fuel than the oil companies, the distributors, and the marinas combined.

Well if you need it quick you can goto endeavor and grab 200+ gallons and they will cut a better deal that 3 amigos. I've got a friend who is in the oil and gas business and will haul a truck in to *TOP SECRET* marina and fill us all up. But you need to come with damn near empty tanks. The more we need as a group the better the price. He can normally beat the pants off what ever 3 amigos or endeavor will do for the day.

He has all the USCG papers and insurance so you don't need a thing. Just like going anywhere else. Call me if you want more info 281-204-5077 Brian

I don't see how, well maybe My bud here in Galveston gets it far cheaper but i'm sure that's because of being right next door to where they make the dino fuel. Down here it's under 2 dollars for a gallon delivered right now. I guess it also helps that he delivers his own fuel and isn't paying someone to do it. And as i tell everyone who is helping keep fuel around and available I know it's not the best profit but thank you!

And /start of rant

This government is out of control! Has been for years. I only fear that I don't think we will stop it now. To many Americans don't care.

/end of rant

We are in NC, and a retailer is going to pay more than a distributor. A distributor who pumps 1 million+ gallons will get Plat pricing, and sells to the little guys 100 thousand gallons a year. We have to pay a few cents for his profit and then a few cents a gallon for truck transportation. Terminal prices here in NC will be higher than if you are near the refinery (lower pipeline costs)

Ah it all makes me sick... We know full well who's behind this and it just drives me nuts. Open the reserve, allow real drilling shallow and deep in the gulf and build about 5 - 10 more refineries right now and skip a year for the 30 billion to Africa. Done. Build better diesel engines, diesel hybrids, Electric/Solar cars and while we are at it the solar flying car... lol How about they go ahead and release the ultra panel made back in the 70s Bet that should solve our solar problems. Well really does suck doesn't it. They just don't love us no more...

I was really looking into that solar/diesel hybrid boat http://dsehybrid.com/ that thing looks cool! Can't wait for a 40 - 50 foot design!
