  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
52' COCKPIT MY (1990 - 1999)
The Fuel pressure switch (that powers my STBD Hourmeter), on the outlet of my spin-on (secondary) fuel filter, is spraying fuel with the engine running. I have spare switches.
Based on my rudimentary but expanding fuel systems knowledge, I believe can simply remove and replace the Honeywell switch and fire up the engine, no bleeding required because the switch is downstream of the engine driven pump.
Is that correct?

To prevent any possibility of joint sealant on the 1/8in NPT joint making it to the injectors, is it best to carefully use LocTite 567 or teflon tape? What's the best technique to prevent a screw up?

PO installed electric priming pumps that I've never had to use as long as I've carefully filled my Dahl 201 canisters and spin-on secondary filters when servicing filters. My understanding is that those electric pumps would only be used for bleeding lines or troubleshooting air leaks between fuel tanks and engine driven pump, correct?

Thanks in advance.

Do not use teflon tape on fuel systems. Most liquid or paste pipe thread sealants will work fine.

Without seeing the system I can't absolutely say if you will need to bleed or not. It's possible that venting the system may drain it back to the tank. If it happens, those electric pumps are a good thing. Look to see if there are any shut-off vales around. Particularly near your Dahl filters. If you can close the system drainback will be minimal.

Thanks Derrick! Great info. I'll shut the Dahl filter manifold valves prior to prevent draining and use Loctite 567.

I changed one on my 12V71's and don't recall having to bleed anything.
