50' MOTOR YACHT (1964 - 1968)
I ran across the Diexel-Tex fuel conditioner at the FT Myers boat show.
Has anyone used this?
I had thought of instaling Alge-X but this may be better with lower cost.
The web site is www.dieseltex.com

Are those the ones that Genesis did a test on and said they did not make a difference?

I think I would stick with Algae-X. you get what you pay for.

My testing was cut short due to the hurricanes (Ivan, Jeanne, et.al.); there was insufficient data available (and still is) for me to come down on either side with these.

Note that the Algae-X units, which I did extensively test, had a LOT more runtime on them.

Since I got rid of the RACORs on my boat determining the results of these devices has gotten a LOT tougher, since I no longer can pull an element and take a picture, then put it back in....

Thanks, I am going to hold off for now.

I would have the opionion that you know that the Algae-x is a reputable company and many people highly recomend them. I have had at least a dozen detroit mechanics say that they recomend them to every customer.

The last mechanic said that he tells his customer who are skeptical to only install one on one motor and then tell him what to do. he says every time they ask for one on the other engine.

I am going to install them on both motors this winter while I am re-designign the fuel system.

FWIW,

Algae-X is officially endorsed at the FT Lauderdale MTU Dealership where they give mechanics training etc. About 10 mos ago, one of the mechanics there was offering to install them on your boat without charge (you pay for the units) and if you were unhappy, he'd remove them without a hitch. Their big thing was that everybody kept them on their boats.

Pat, How did the Alge-X units work out? I saw the results of them on Jimbo's boat and his fuel is very light in color. Another boating buddy says he hasn't changed a Racor in years with his Alge-X.

Magical Magnets.

The only change I have seen with these snake oil devices is they break up fuel crud to the point that it passes through the filters.

Is that a good thing? Depends. If you hate to change filters, maybe it is. But ask yourself this...if the crud does not get captured on the filters...where does it go?
