  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
58' YACHT FISHERMAN (1970 - 1981)
We're leaving soon to go to the show. I've be wearing my Hatteras 1510 Club T-shirt and my cell phone is 301-643-0917. If you are there, Thursday, love to meet up with some forum members.

My son, Steve and I are going Sunday. My wife won't let me wear a T-shirt though; just a woman thing I guess. My cell is 313-701-1179.

My flight leaves around 6PM today, but I'll be at the show tomorrow in a Bayliner jumpsuit and my hair on fire. :D

Show is pretty good, fair turnout today... Lots of things to look at... ;)

I was surprised to see that the new 72MY has NO lower station! Just a huge empty dash area with a dinette situated to port. I like my flybridge, but not at the cost of my lower helm. To each his own.

For the same money as the new 72MY there is a near new Hargrave 78MY at the show that I went on with a Mozambique teak interior that is drop-dead gorgeous. I can't wait until those boats depreciate!

I had lunch at the pavillion yesterday and ended up sitting down with Rene Herzog who built "Giant" the 247' ice class expedition yacht. The stories he told about cruising her were unreal. The didn't worry about weather, they just went. 22' draft kept him offshore of many ports, but his 42' tenders would serve to get him to and from shore. He recently sold Giant and is building another one in Italy right now. This guy has been living the dream, cruising the globe on his private yachts for 30 years. Wow.

The "Yachts After Dark" party was wonderful last night. The weather was cool and breezy and all the big boats were open for touring and cocktails. BIG fun!

Ran into Sparky1 at the beer barge (where else?) fairly early yesterday and he looked like he had been Goose-bitten from the night before but was recovering nicely.

A MY with no lower station and I'm assuming it's not an enclosed bridge right? That's just crazy.

Brian

Ed and I went to FLIBS on Saturday. We, too, found the Bird at the drinkin' barge. By Saturday night, he was back to being friendly with the Goose that previously bit him.

We looked at the new Hatts. Sad to see that beyond the salon, all of the walls were padded vinyl, and aframosia is no longer offered, just cherry or mahogany. It's just not the same.

I didn't find anything to buy, except for a pair of Crocs.

Humm... that's funny, as I recall (correctly I might add) I was walking past the drinking barge to look at some more boats when some overweight guy with a pony tail came up from behind me and gave me a big hug. I was just about to call 911 when I realized who it was. :)

It was good to see the usual attendees, captddis, Ed, Angela, and of course Doug and the rest of the SAM's crew. I got to meet a few members for the first time as well including bertramp and mike41TC. Dan and I went to the show on Friday and Saturday, and may make our way back down again depending on how things go.

More foggy memories you forgot Byron in the list of names!

It was good to meet everyone.

It was nice to meet up on Friday albeit a short meet. As usual not enough time for everything. We spent Thur and Fri at the show and our feet hurt. Then Fri and Sat nights at a Commander rendezvous in Delray and had to meet up with a friend at Cable Thur afternoon and ran into some old friends at the show. Saw Doug and Steve as well.

We NEED to organize some FL HOF rendezvous!!!!! I will volunteer for a West coast meet. Lets make it happen.

we'll probably do another raft up during the Miami boat show in Feb, that was fun last year (although one member probalby doens't remember much!) :-)

Did they show the new "small" MY? or only the bigger ones... which i didn't found to be that great last year.

Unity and I will be there again for the Miami show raftup. That was a very good time. I hope Sky and his wife will join us once again. The smaller motor yacht was there, Pascal, but without the "optional" pilot house helm. It would be impossible to back that thing into a slip without someone with a radio calling the shots from the stern area. You have no side or aft view from the flybridge, none at all. How can they make the inside helm "optional". The pilot house door is hard to get to and that whole area looks very unfinished.

We toured the "small MY". If you like the look and smell of a Carver, then that's your boat! Actually, all of Hatt's new boats were "Carverized". All of the walls beyond the salon were padded vinyl and smelled, literally, like a SeaRay or Carver. Not for me. We next toured the President 107. If I win the lottery, Dick (owner) and I will be talkin'. Sorry, but Hatteras ain't what it used to be, but then again, I'm not their target customer, even if I had $8 million to spend.

Hey Pascal....we took a test drive of all the new gauges/senders, and to see if we cured our "overheat" problem with the starboard engine after giving both engines a "Genesis heat exchanger cleaning". No overheat, but The Bird plague hit us. Seems at this point that we've lost the regulator in the port engine' alternator as it was pushing 40+ amps on the new voltmeter when we advanced the throttle. Yep...The Bird was onboard, so a failure of some sort was not totally unexpected. We idled down to No Name Harbor and stayed for a while, after convincing Stupid Tow to back up to the next cleat (a/k/a Sea Tow - I asked him move back 10 feet so we could fit on the wall after he first said to us, "Aren't you a little big to fit in there?" to which I replied, "Not if you'lll back up to the next cleat?"..."Well that's the last cleat" he said, "So????? How long are you planning to camp out in front of the pump out?", I asked; "I dunno", he said; I said, "Should I wait or go home [dumbass]" in a very smartass tone, by this point? The guy doesn't even have a holding tank, yet he wanted to camp out in front of the pump out station while the rest of the wall was fairly empty - he's a little inflatable boat!) He backed up 10 feet with a gruge. The Bird suggested we put in a call on the radio to Stupid Tow to say that we just ran aground at Stiltsville to get the friggin vulcher out of there. LOL The Bird does have a brain sometimes!

We've got some more trouble shooting to do this week.

when someone does that, refuse to move, I come in anyway, bow first. Once they see that hatteras bow and the pulpit looming over there head, they get the picture. Or just call the main ST office...

If the FB is enclosed, you get get by without a lower helm if you have remote controls on the aft deck... I assume Hatteras put them on their boats, but who knows. I must say that i've come to love the skylounge on the Johnson, it is so comfortable, great views, etc... in the mornings when it's cold, I'm up here wearing a Tshirt and i pass open FB boats where they are all bundled up and cold even with eisenglass.

I was very disapointed in the MYs last year, lots of corners were cut. I remember the outside stairs up, and even the aft deck i think being non skid instead of teak... probably the only MY on the market sold like that.

I was quite surprised by the Seatow guy I would have thought he was blind or drunk he stood there like DUH!!!! But Ang found just the right words LOL.
Ed & Ang thanks for letting me Crew it was great to be out on the water on a Big old Hatt.

It was great spending time with you both.
Thanks Dan

Damn, just when I thought I was ready willing and able to pull the trigger on a new 56' ,Hatteras goes and changes the rules of yacht building.

I guess it's back to restoring the old 50!

It was indeed impressive. The only think I wasn't fond of was the crew arrangement. Through the ER, then through the crew head/shower, to a cave with only an emergency hatch as an alternative exit.

Probably not an issue for an owner, but I don't think it will be popular with captains. On the opposite side of the spectrum, I took Ang over to a 107' President. Granted, it's a huge boat, but the thought that went into the crew on that one was honorable. It's just outside of the ER, so the captain is close. 2 mates have over/under bunks and their own head. The captain has a private SR with a double and a head. They share a small galley/lounge area. All of this finished in wood, a little more spartan, but with the same class as the owner/guest accomodations. Now, THAT is a boat I would feel priveledged to crew on.

The fly-bridge ladder arrangement on that 77 struck me as precarious, until I discovered the staircase into the saloon! Nice touch there.

I actually liked the fly-bridge of the 68 better in terms of layout. The 68 had a great entertainment area in front of the helm.

We looked at the Hatt Motoryachts as well, and I was happy to see a real galley with a real oven on the 72. I also noted the lack of a lower station, and was told it was optional. What I really didn't like, was that beyond the saloon, everything was finished in padded vinyl. It looked, felt and smelled very Carver-ish, or Sea Ray-ish...name your production boat brand.... I guess it's a matter of taste, but I would like to have seen more wood, even some accents would be nice. I asked about this an got a "sales" answer...safety...it's softer if you're bumping into walls and things navigating the companionways. Oh yea, that's it! Why didn't I think of that?

They still appear to be built like tanks, so in that respect they are still building classics that should stand the test of time.

I would absolutely let them build a boat for me, but it would have to be a custom build based on what I saw at the show. More wood inside, a usable lower station, and a bigger aft-deck.

Ditto on that. That was a very enjoyable cruise. In fact, unlike that last one aboard Sanctuary, I could say it was one to remember. :D

I'm sitting at the airport awaiting a flight back home where I'll go do my civic duty before heading to the office. The show was very enjoyable, but as always, the best part was meeting up with members/friends I only get to see once or twice a year.

The only Hatts I boarded were a 65LRC and a 70CPMY, both of which were severely overpriced. At the risk of plugging a competing brand, the most impressive (and realistic) boat I boarded was a 65 Tollycraft. It was owned by an older gentleman who was onboard, and he told me and Dan about some of the trips it had made including one to Europe. It had been over 20 years since I'd been on that model of Tolly, but the newer version was the same as I'd remembered.
