1987 54ft MY replaced sticking freshwater tank sender two years ago. New one still sticks. Tired of tapping top of water tank to get a correct reading. Any ideas what to do about this situation? Are there other senders to consider?

Thanks

Remove and clean them once a year. Clean with sandpaper or scouring pad.

I replaced both of my freshwater tank senders with electric liquid sending units. SSS/SSL Senders with a water level gauge (CPWR) located at my control station with a 3 position toggle switch.
Tank 1 / OFF / Tank 2. I have not had any issues in the past 5 years.

What gauge and sender setup did you use? What manufacturer? Was the install reasonably doable?

Hart Tank Tender. No moving parts. Nothing that can corrode.

I used "KUS USA GAUGE INSTRUMENTATION" located in Davie Florida. They make a unit that screws directly into the top of the tank, just like the old mechanical units.

So is it just a stainless steel rod with a black float and 2 sending wires? If not, do you have a link to what you installed?

Yes it is a Stainless rod with a float that slides up and down, with 2 wires out of the top sending unit.

Would that work with 32V? I have that nearby for the shower sump and bilge pump.... Or I can do a 32V to 12V step down. I have no problem putting the gauge in the side of the bed...... No need to run that all the way to the helm.....

Slightly embarrassing, but I bought two from WEMA five years ago and only installed the one for immediate use.

Last fall I turned the boat upside down to find the other new one, but the eBay price was so cheap (compared with the factory) that I just bought a third one.

This guy I can vouch for:

He made a goof on my order, but replaced it no questions asked and paid shipping both ways--great seller.

The sender just measures resistance, the gauge is what requires power.

Following up, I have the TankEdge (formerly Snake River) Ultra 8, and these standard KUS sensors work fine.

I do run them from my 12V system, and they are capable of the contactless capacitive system mentioned earlier as well.

My boat has a hatch over water tank when i was replacing the pick up tubes I cut a 4 inch O ringed plate in top of tank now I just look in it to see how much water is in tank never fails.
