Fresh water system

Ok need engine experts help. If I drain the fresh water from the drain on the manifold on a 8-71 will that pet cock drain the entire fresh water system or just what in in the manifold. Another words am I looking at a gallon or so or 8 plus gallons. Thanks in advance, John

Water seek its level

Any liquid above that with a direct path will push out until all liquid is below the peacock.

Depending where on a manifold and the way it sits you will only get so much.

Drained it and all 10 gallons came out. Guess I am putting in all new coolant. Did it because I brook a stud on the fitting on the bottom of the exhaust manifold.

I do not know about the 8-71 but on my 6-71's, there are 3 petcocks on each engine that will drain various parts (levels) of the fresh water side. I am able to get about 7 1/2 gallons out.
