Hatteras Model
48' YACHT FISHERMAN (1972 - 1975)
Hey guys just to give you warning, Randy is headed west on I-40 on his way back to Tennesee. I will let you know when it arrives so you can safely go out in public.

I talked the "Bird" (Randy) into bringing me one those new fangled safes with the electronic lock. It is one of the Cannon Safes. He gave me an excellent price and made delivery look simple. I have moved many safes during my military career and it was always a back breaking operation that took several strong people, a lot of lifting, grunting, cussing, and few mashed fingers. Randy pulled up with the safe on his aluminum trailer and I asked him how were "we" going to get an 800 lbs safe up the stairs with just me and him? He laughed and said this was a "light" one.

I was taken to school today. The safe was bolted down to a wood pallet, and Randy used a pallet jack to roll it off the trailer down the trailer ramp into my car port. We then used the trailer ramps to get up the the three steps to my door way off loading the safe from the pallet jack onto some PVC pipes. I was really just there for moral support, Randy did this by himself. I was amazed as he rolled this SAFE right in, spun it around and pushed it place with out a single bump or hiccup. That safe looked like it weight 10 lbs instead of 800 lbs! Randy made that safe dance at his fingertips. It was like watching a ballet. Not one mark on the floor either! I recalled all my previous bad experiences and how much trouble Randy's techniques would have saved us and felt down right stupid, LOL. I learned something in the process and it was fun to watch a professional at work.

We have had a rash of home invasions and break in's in our area recently. The crime wave looks like it is just beginning here. I am not worried about it if I am home, just when I am away. I have a few things that I am fond of and wanted better security for them, after several of my friends lost some things that were ir-replaceable I did not want to experience the same loss and decided now was the time to tighten up.

If anyone is considering purchasing a safe I can give you a glowing report on Southern Security Safes.

If you just want the low down on what to look for in a safe, there is a lot of good information on his website.

I am very pleased with the safe that Randy helped me select and his extensive knowledge was invaluable to help guide me to that end.

We had a good time, cooked some steaks and watched Tennessee whip up on Kentucky.

ok, it is safe to come out now the bird made it to the roost without incident.

As long as he is off the road by Monday...

The Admiral is in Nashville and heading home tomorrow after visiting with our son and his family since Friday..

I"m home taking care of her 93 yr old dad....

So 'whats wrong with this."

She's seeing our son while I'M TAKING CARE OF HER DAD...

So what time do the "dancing girls" leave????

Thanks for the endorsement Chris, that was the best $5 I ever spent. :D

As always, it was good spending time with you and Joy. Too bad it had to be such a quick visit. Man, that was some crazy weather coming back through Knoxville last night. Now I've seen a combination of lightning along with snow/sleet for the third time in my life. Must have been the first time for everybody else on I-40 since they all stopped to watch it.

I really appreciated what you did, and you even drank the house vodka without bitchin' LOL

Glad you made it home safely.

Chris,

Just curious, where are you seeing problems...Sanford way, or more local around the airport??

Hope all is well,

Rick

hey Rick,

I live North East of Fayetteville, but Sanford is seeing a lot property crimes too. The thing that got me is how bold the criminals have gotten, daylight home invasions and thefts. They were actually taking peoples air conditioners for scrap metal. Let me know if things start happening over your way.

Chris

TTIWWOP (google it)

I feel that there is only going to be more violence and robberies in the near future. I'm pretty much carrying wherever I go now.

OK Krush you asked for it.

Hey, I remember that guy from last years HOF Yankeefest. Doesn't say much but he's pretty good about sharing his grey goose.

LOL, a pretty good likeness, except the hair is too long!

Krush, just remember that Colonel Cooper said to "never show up to a gunfight with a caliber that doesn't start with a "4".

I have always carried a 1911, but lately I became fond of my Glock (but it sure is ugly).

Don't fumble your glock and shoot yourself in the leg! What ever you do, don't carry in NYC without a permit or you face three and a half years mandatory. Talk about different cultures! I guess in NYC the right to bear arms means you can roll up your sleaves and go to work for Mayor Bloomberg. I wonder if the same laws apply to firearms aboard your boat in the harbor?

Hey, I didn't want to partake of that imported Texas vodka you showed me. What was that stuff again... Tostito's?

As for interstate safe delivering, looks like I'm going to be taking one to the metro Atlanta area on my trip down to FL on 12/19. If any of you along the I-75 corridor from GA to central FL need anything, give me a shout.

Maybe I should start a new thread about that and will unless somebody tells me not to. I could make any other HOF'er the same deal I did Chris. 40% over retail and free delivery. :D

PS I gladly accept tips in the form of ammo, steak, or vodka.

You must be referring to Tito's Handmade Vodka! That is some REALLY good stuff! We discovered it about a year and a half ago and have been enjoying ever since.

Tito is a good old boy who went to the library and researched the old way to make a pot still. This is how he makes his vodka, in a pot still and it is made from CORN, not potatoes! His is the only legal distillery in the history if the state of Texas. His office has pictures of Texas Rangers raiding and arresting all the illegal distillery's throughout prohibition.

He uses a plain glass bottle and a brown paper wrapper that he puts on himself (or used to), and they are often not even on straight. He says you are buying his vodka, not some fancy bottle so why pay for the bottle? Tito's consistantly beats all the "Premium" and "Super Premium" vodka's like Kettle One, Grey Goose, Belvedere, Stoli Elite, etc in taste tests and costs much less.

I am glad that a vodka connesseur such as Randy appreciates Tito's!

Yeah, it was Tito's. I was just messing with Chris.

Actually, the first I ever heard of this brand was from our very own sherrylynne who some thought was me in drag. I'll have to let her know I tried some of her home-grown Texas vodka, and it is in fact very smooth.

As for me being a "vodka connesseur", I wouldn't say that. Connoisseur maybe. :)

Well now I'm completly confused? If you can take an 800 lb safe off a trailer up some stairs and into position then why can't you remove a 250lb cylinder head and a 30 lb cylinder kit then do the same in reverse?

Brian

Sorry, I thought that was what they were called in Tennessee as you guys do things a bit different there.;)

Actually, Chris gave me his 71 series service manuals to take back home and study, but I walked out like a big dummy and left them in his den.

Once the holidays are over, I may well just jump on that thing and see what happens. It's not as though I could hurt it by taking it apart. :D
