I need to replace the pump in the forward shower sump. I know where it is but cannot really find a good way of reaching the pump to change it. Short of cutting a whole in the floor where my steps lift up to get to the back of the forward genset, is there some trick to get to the pump. Standing in the forward bilge compartment doesn't bother me but one handed access to the pump is a tough fix.

Isn't there a hatch above it? Did someone carpet over it without cutting the catch opening? Was something installed to block access from below? The sumps are a regular service item and I've never seen one on a Hatt that didn't have good access.

No Jack. This is the forward sump that sits on a shelf in the forward bilge area. The sump container sits on the shelf and there appears to be about 6" or so of clearance between the shelf and the bottom of the floor above it. Also, it is set aft on the shelf, almost beyond arms length when your chest would hit the shelf if standing in the hole.

Seems odd. Can you see if there is a hatch when you look at it from the bilge area? Anyway to crawl back in there? I have one that's in a ways but the hatch is big enough for me to climb in and reach the sump. Is there an access panel that's screwed in place, maybe under the stairs?

None that I have found so far.

I always take my phone with me when I go head first into the hole. Got stuck once butvthevwife was able to help pull me out. When I re did the genny room I cut a better access behind the forward genny so I can now easily reach the bilge pump and shower sump.

Cutting that access hole may be my best and only option.
