  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
58' TRIPLE CABIN (1970 - 1976)
Seeing as how they've adopted Deep Purple's "Smoke On The Water" as their official theme song for the sub, I figured I'd make them up a special version of it. I'd like to dedicate this one to Willie and Gator. Sing it with me now...

They brought it up from Mo-bile
On the Alabama shoreline
To make progress towards Chicago,
They didnt have much time

Ole' Willie and a muther
Got the sub turned around
But some redneck in a bass boat
Damn near put the sub aground

Smoke on the water, diesel in the sky

They cruised up the Tennessee
The sub made an awful sound
Gator he was running in and out
Drinkin' beer he had found
When it all was over
he had to find another case
The swiss cheese was running out
It seemed that they would lose the race

Smoke on the water, diesel in the sky

They ended up at a cheap hotel
It was empty cold and bare
But with the rolling big trucks parked just outside
Buying their diesel there
With a few Bud Lights, a few old beds
They made a place to sweat
We all know what we got out of this
I know we'll never forget

Smoke on the water, diesel in the sky

Hittin' the 'Goose a little early arent ya?? I heard that yer gettin' outa the safe business and headin' to Memphis, Tennessee that is, and got a cubicle at Sun Records. Hmmm... Maybe you can write a hit for Elvis... LOL ws

Goose... it ain't just for breakfast anymore. Yup, I'm hoping some talent scout will see this and offer me a nice rubber room someplace. I'll invite you and Pat over once I get settled.

Sparky1,

Love the song :-)

Cool!

The Alabama and Drum is a pretty cool museum isn't it? The "Cajun Queen" is really having a great resurrection and second life - she's a lucky yacht! Plus she has led to so many great adventures and stories for so many of us.

Is there a reason why Bill's youngest Boston Terrier is named "Sparky" that I don't know about? Hmmmmm.... at least he's not "Sparky2" or "Sparky Jr."

more later,

Everybody have a wonderful weekend!

OK Mama, give it up. Who are you? Do you own a Buick too?

Per Ppat's request she has asked that our Forum Community call the boat Hatt Trick.

Thanks J... I was kidding around with her the other day, and realized that after all the work she put into the boat that she kinda took offense to calling it the sub. She realized the humor in the boats past, but now its really looking good and the connotation hurts her feelings. I have to respect her for that, altho boys will be boys.
Early in the morning last weekend, I got up to make coffee via a nite lite, and the whole inside was as shiny as could be. A definite change from the dismal appearance from days of yore.
FWIW... theres 3 seat belt road blocks here this morning. Watch yer speed and strap your bad selves in!! Sooo totalitarian!! ws

Old habits are hard to break, especially since I went to all that trouble to find that brass periscope for Willie's Christmas present a couple of years ago. I hope she didn't toss it.

Hey Sparky, I saw it and Will be hanging it in a place of HONOR!!!! I told Bill it was COOOOLLLLL!!!!!!! ppat Bills X-O

The periscope or the new lyrics?

I noticed that ppat took offense to referencing the sub right off the bat. What she may not have understood it that it was/is a term of endearnment and meant with all due respect to her past and to Bill's amazing work over the last several years. There are many beautiful boats out there, but none that have made such a transformation. The periscope jokes and running underwater comments are all in good fun and meant with ALL due respect. At least for me, they would be sorely missed if we tried to somehow hide the history and not talk and joke about what we have been talking about for what, three+ years now?

Ppat has worked very hard since she has jumped on board this refit with both feet but we have all been loyally following this saga for a very long time with much enthusiasm. Although this is ppat's first launch, this is not the Hatt Trick's first launch after Bill put in an entire winter's work. The interior is much more beautiful now than at this time last year, but let's not forget that the systems/wiring/mechanical/electrical stuff (the most important!) was the main focus in the first phase of the refit. Now that she is seaworthy, the "Yacht" interior finish is the theme of this season with more perfecting of the systems.

Ppat, please don't take offense to anything we may say on here about the boat. Bill never does! Never doubt that we are all behind the Hatt Trick refit 100%. :)

Yooz guys bring a tear to my eyes!! We've all come such a long way, havent we?

BTW Byron... you are one of the most eloquent Hatt owners I know!! You should think about a political career. ws

Bryon and all the rest of you guys... after careful consideration this will be my last post for awhile. I havent given up on the boat, Ill still be working on her and all I just want to sit back and enjoy for a little while.
Now, to the reason I am posting.... I understand its a term of endearment and I really dont take offense to it being called the sub. ppat

Heck ppat, don't run off. We'd miss you.

I agree with Sparky1!

Glad to see you are back!

Looking forward to more posts from you as you encounter more adventures in the wonderful world of boating -

If you think winter boating in Chicago is great, I can't wait to hear what you think about summer boating!

Isn't the "Heart of Glass" great?
