Flybridge curtain design

I'm redoing our curtains (if Santa brings me the sewing machine ) and need to redesign them to cover the area marked by the white arrows surrounding the original "plexi" windscreen.

Water pours around that thing...any other 45c (or others) have any suggestions?

Water pours around there?! Uh, what sort of conditions are you running in that water coming through the crack between the venturi and the deck area is a problem?!

I don't think I ever had that sort of problem - yes, water could come in there in a rainstorm, but it dripped - not poured - and wasn't particularly offensive....

Kinda snotty conditions the water whips around it and always manages to smack me in the face and soak the bridge (even when raining pretty good)

We replaced our venturi windscreen over 12 years ago when we did our EZ2CY enclosure. They used the EZ2CY material and framed it in Stamoid or some other fabric. They attaced the upper portion to the existing railing with trim and screws. The bottom edge had some excess fabric that was laid on the edge of the bridge then secured using plastic trim pieces/moulding and screws.

That looks great and would fit the bill....I don't plan on using EZ2CY for the curtains but would like it for the windscreen/venturi.

I wouldn't extend soft plexi material over your venturi, if that's your plan -- the vis would be really distorted, I'd think.

If the water coming in between the sill and the venturi really bothers you, you can make up a piece of stainless or plastic channel that the bottom edge of the venturi sets into and bed that in. PO had it like that on my 45c, but when I redid the venturi I decided I liked the clean look better...that bottom edge with aged caulking in there just always looked dingy.

You are right on when you say there may be distortion. We have the smileys but find ourselves rolling up the whole enclosure in the middle just to have a good view for anybody riding with you.

That looks very nice and clear! I also would like some more pictures and close ups if you have them. To get some ideas. BY the way how are the new props working out?

I shot Rick an email letting him know that I will try to get some close up shots on my next trip to the boat. Shot me your email and I will send them to you also.

As for the new Veem 4-blade wheels. We absolutely LOVE them. Major difference. Here is a post I made back in September....

"Well, we finally received our new 4-bladed Veem Propellers towards the end of August. Put them on and had a chance to run the boat and fish with them this past weekend. WOW!

HUGE difference. The smoothness and lack of ANY vibration alone was worth it. Since we had our 3-blades all Prop Scanned years ago vibration has been minimal but with the Veems it is absolutely nonexistent. Smooth as silk and no noise. The boat and motors sound completely different. Like the engines are not laboring as much.

As for performance, we got our cake and are eating it too. Improved by 2.0-2.5 knots at cruise and 2.5-3.0 knots at WOT topping out around 31 knots. Fuel economy at cruise improved 15%! The boat comes out of the hole and on plane much quicker and with less smoke. At around 1400 Rs the bow just fell down. She also seems to track better in reverse. Keep in mind that one of the engines is not turning up full RPMs and is holding the other back a little (rebuild time).

These wheels were perfect right out of the box having been tuned to exacting ISO 484/2 Class S pitch tolerances. A neighbor on the dock just put a new pair of Veems on his 50’ Viking and was also amazed at the smoothness and performance. Although he was not sure if he had picked up speed or fuel economy (??) he also said the smoothness was worth it. He bought them because he was experiencing cavitation burn.

So bottom line - we LOVE them and will be buying a second set as spares as soon as the engines are rebuilt and sea trialed. Any one interested in a few sets of 3-bladed wheels for 2.5" shafts?????" http://www.samsmarine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3281&page=1&pp=10&highlight=veem

I can not say enough about how great these props worked out for us. The boat was pretty smooth before but now is just perfect. Absolutely no more black smoke upon acceleration - none. Everything is noticeably better.

Take a look at my pictures on this site under George (G). I completly removed venturi for just that reason, plus the hand rail is always in line sight (PIA). Looks to me like your top, may have the correct line to pull this off, with keeping a good shear look.

I removed my venturi also so we could bead the enclosure at the bottom to eliminate the wrinkles caused by the snaps. Good Luck
