Hi all, I need to flush the fresh water tank on my new to me 1988 38c. Does anyone know if these tanks have a drain?

Don't know if you have a drain. My 48LRC dose not, have to pump it out. Just learned that Hydrogen Proxide works better than Clorax. You don't need a lot and a 30oz bottle is about a buck.

Just curious, where did the claim come from that H Peroxide works better than Clorox for disinfecting water?

It's not commonly used for water disenfection. At least not for drinking water. It's a microbial biocide if memory serves but not as commonly used as chlorine.

First thing to do is fill and flush the tank a few times to get out as much of the old stale water as possible. Next fill and treat with a light concentration of chlorine. Slosh it around and let it sit a day or two. Flush a few more times and you should be fine.

Sounds like a good plan but is there a simple way to drain the tank

Most have the pickup for the pump. I have never seen a drain nor would it make sense. Pump it overboard not into the bilge.

I became interested in the peroxide thing - as far as where that recommendation could have originated. But both the CDC site, the EPA site, plus two different state Health agencies that I checked all state that plain household bleach (Clorox/Purex) was the weapon of choice. CDC suggests peroxide as suitable for disinfecting surfaces (as is bleach) but not for water. EPA and the state agencies don't mention peroxide at all - just bleach or iodine.

Ok, all I know about this is. The mechanic at my Marina recommend it, to get rid of rotten egg smell and it worked. I had RO water from my water maker that turned sour. That's all
