I'm going to be putting a couple of Floscans on our 61' MY 1271TIs. I know some of you guys have put them in any tricks or advice would be apreciated

Brian

I have installed a number of them including on a 61MY. They are a PITA. Lots of hose and fittings. Takes about 4 days for the multifunction units. I can never get the tachs dialed in on the Detroits because of the blower drive ratios. The wiring can be a little confusing too. Have fun!

Well my plan is for the forward flow to break into the line between the primaries and the engines pretty easy. Then for the returns break into the lines just below the selector valves also pretty easy. I'm not using units with tachs I already have the digital Aetnas so I won't have those problems. Is there much to the calibration?

As far as the calibration, It is usually not too bad. The units are matched so keep the serial# together. I think they did away with some of the pulsation dampers. There were 4 units per engine. Fwd flow sensor, fwd flow pulsation damper, return flow pulsation damper and return flow sensor. The pulsation dampers need to be as high as possible. I mounted them on the aft bulkhead by the batt switches up near the top. The units do not like ANY air and will read air bubbles as fuel. I have found that the steel hydraulic fittings work best in the aluminum pulsation dampers {1" PT}. The cast fittings seep slightly regardless which sealant you use. If you want to look the 61 is in Tampa. I know you will get it figured out. You do look like a real expert at the fuel dock when you tell them how much you will take within a few gallons.

The down side is no one wants to run hooked up after they see the fuel burn. Dave

Off topic slightly, but I recently learned that FloScan supplies transducers for almost ALL the airplane fuel totalizers (JPI, etc).

Just remember you only have to be 10% smarter than the equipment you are operating. LOL

I had my mechanic install the floscans because it looked well above my meager abilities. You initially calibrate them at idle to get them roughly right, then recalibrate them after fuel usage (compare the flowscan gallons consumed against what the fuel pump put in your tank). The adjustment are easy as long as you don't seal the guages into the dash mounting area. I left them unsealed so I could pull the guages out to use the adjustment wheels in the back of the guage.
Good luck!
