Hallo to all,
I have decided to fit a floscan system on my two engine detroit diesel 325 hp 671TI to have consumption under control when I ship.

I tryed to contact FLOSCAN directly but no reply from them at today, probably because they haven't dealer here in Italy.

Are there some owner of hatt that have installed something of similar??

Can you help me with some suggestion about this matter??

Thanks to all!
Roberto

Installed two Flo Scan units 2 years ago on my 40 Hatt MY. Have used for years. Recent disucssion on this site, search the previous posts. Go to homepage, select type of meter needed, and order. Never had a problem talking with reps. or receiving information or help. Will need installation, but that shouldn't be a big problem, comes with good installation instructions.

Buongiorno!

If you have 671 TIs they are likely 450hp each. The installation of Floscans will require sensors on the return lines also. I have read mixed reviews on their accuracy with Detroits due to the volume of fuel returned to the tanks. As I recall the accuracy fell off at low rpms. Floscan makes a great product though and they may have a solutions to the low rpm concern. Do a search here on Floscan and you will find some good commentary.

Best regards,
John D.

I purchased/Installed flo scans on a previous boat and decided I would not do so again. I realize that most people seem to like them but IMO there was no actual benefit to offset the cost. I didn't find any practical use for the alleged benefits of the system. Data is here on the site for the best cruise speed/fuel mileage for most hatts and a couple of runs with a working fuel gauge or a dip stick can tell you that if you can't find the data as opposed to paying for floscans to perform what is essentially a one-time calibration.

I also found that monitoring the gauges created worry. THe needles can move around considerably at steady speed and make you nuts wondering if something bad is happening. I did so many "WHAT THE HECK's HAPPENING" comments at the helm that the Admiral probably thought we were doomed. ;)

They may work great for you and, like many others, you may love them but I thought an opposite experience/opinion might be helpful at least from a reference point of view.

Roberto is very likely correct with his statement of 6-71TI's rated at 325 hp each. If you contact either Hatteras or the folks at Johnson and Towers or Covington down in North Carolina, they will confirm that in fact many of their 6-71ti engines went to Hatteras (and others) rated at 325 hp. As a matter of fact starting with the 1980 model of the 43 DC they lowered the hp because of potential issues with new boaters not operating their boats properly in all sea conditions. Years ago I had a 1980 model 43 DC with the 6-71ti engines and I was concerned because they were governed at approx 2300 rpm WOT. I assumed there was something wrong and after talking to the factory folks and the experts at Covington (the company that provided my particular engines), they checked the seriel #'s and sure enough, they were only 325.......HOWEVER, it was fairly easy to bring them to where they were meant to be by re-setting the governers and other changes. The factory did NOT recommend changing anything however because of the possible liability problems. Hope this information helps to clear up this issue..

many thanks, Walt
My 325 hp works perfectly at 2100 rpm and my 37 convertible ship around 18 knt as a clock!!
This summer I had decided to install a floscan system to keep under control the consumption of diesel and now I am looking some more information about Floscan system.
many thanks

I understand very well your opinion. I though that fitting this system could be a really help to ship correctly with a minimun saving of diesel, but reading all threads, it seems that this system doesn't work so well at lower rpm.
many thanks!!
