My dining table had a loose seam and I caught it before I could fix the edge and tore a small piece of laminate completely off. Now I can't find that piece so I'm trying to patch the small area with a mix of sorts. I found this on line but wandering if anyone has used it with any reasonable results. My solution this winter will be to remove the table and have it professionally repaired but don't want to do that now.

If the table comes off easily it is a 1 hour job to laminate over it with new stuff. why bother to try the patch?

Scott,

I don't know about the stuff you are talking about, but I have actually taken a spot that was burned and routed it out and placed a piece of ceramic tile in its place,,,,size depending on the spot,,,,Looks like a planned hot pot holder when your'e done. This would work depending on where the tear is and how big...

Plus if it's that loose you may be able to replace the whole counter top cheaper than trying to patch....with no more information as to how big and where it is located,,,,,this would be my suggestion to try the tile. can get a 12"x12"

It's actually on the curved edge of the table, getting the table off is not that big a deal so I may go that route but would rather wait to off season, with my luck the laminating shop will take 6 months to get it done.

Scott, Give it to Eric Jans. He re-laminated the dinette table on my 31 Commander. Once he had the matching material on hand, he turned it around in a day. We did the edge in teak to replace the OEM ugly aluminum.

I concur...I did just that on my Roamer. The table had a flush sharp corner with formica; I recovered it and capped it with a teak sea rail so stuff doesnt slide of in a seaway. If you recover with new formica, make sure you sand any glaze off before you apply contact cement! ws

Got so excited looking at the new formica that I spilled my tea- good thing it didn't get on the computer ;) I hope to get our formica replaced in the years ahead- it's lined up behind a number of other jobs that the Captain feels are more important at the moment. And the Admiral (me) has not yet exerted undue influence. Maybe one day.
