Darwin at his best. Just hope no one goes out to rescue him if he has trouble. Our CG did not sign up to pull idiots out of storms.
Anyone here remember the bounty?
Hardly a seamanlike thing to say, even in jest. Hate to think this statement could make it to friends/family waiting for this fellas landfall.
I sure don't see anything in the USCG ethos disqualifying idiots... of any kind from being saved. Not defending the actions of this guy, whomever he is. The many Coasties I have known though sure don't pick and choose who is worth saving. If they did, my guess is idiocy would be a good deal down the list from some other flaws.
As far as the Bounty, not sure I get the reference as I seem to recall it was hurricane Sandy (if it is still at 30 knots & 8ft that is hardly comparable) and she was a 180 ft. full rigged ship many miles offshore and even then Petty Officer Dan Todd. the rescue swimmer on scene, swam to the survivors and blithely greeted them with, "Hi I'm Dan, I heard you guys need a ride." Country could use a few more guys like him for sure.
Sure hope this fella is ok.
