Can anyone explain to me how the starting circuit is supposed to work on a 1970's Motor Yacht? Or better yet does anyone have a diagram? In 4 years I have not made it a priority, but I feel like it is time. I have always started this boat in the engine room and reviewed all of the systems before heading to the helm. I would like to fix it so the starter buttons at the helms work, but I don't quite understand how they should work. Thank you if you can help with this.

Post a photo of your helm showing everything. One of us should be able to walk you through it.

My apologies, I was not clear. I know HOW to start my boat from the 2 helms, it is just they do not work. What I need to understand is how the wiring is supposed to work, i.e. when the ignition button is depressed where is the neutral safety switch in the system, what solenoid is activated, what direction does electricity flow?

Basically does any one have the wiring diagram for the start circuit?

Hatteras was great with this hidden fuse BS I’ve been on boats where I’ve found them buried in panels. 70’s Hatt wiring wasn’t the best. I would think if it’s some kind of neutral safety it would effect both stations. I’ve had my key switches go bad you might want to try there and check if you have power to the switches.

I know everyone on this forum has been waiting for this update ;). Charles Piner at Hatteras was able to supply me with the original wire diagrams. After 2 cups of coffee and a good magnifying glass I found the culprit. Turns out there is a safety in line with the Start Circuit, that makes remote start inoperable once the CO2 system has discharged (obviously to keep you from sucking that powder into your engine). In the early 2000s the previous owner swapped out the CO2 system with a BA Halon system, and did not re connect this wire. I have jumped the wire for now until I think through the need for not restarting after discharge of Halon.

RiverRandy that is some good Electrician / Detective work! (I'm not sure which is truer) good job!

On my fireboy system control box there’s a plunger switch to reset or override the auto shutdown when system discharges.
