Does anyone know where else (who sells / makes) the leather fender holders / hangers that hang off of teak railings? Sams has them but I was hoping to find some alot cheaper (Sams part # FH3N - $230). Maybe this is what they cost...I thought they were like $30!! Shows what I know

not that I'm cheap... well maybe i am... but i find these things too expensive too...

I used to tie my fenders to the rail (bow), it never hurt the railings although it was only for transient use. Permanent, i'd consider a sleeve of sof material to protect the wood. Now that I installed rope lights under the railings, I tie the fenders to the stanchion holders, it works very well.

further aft on the 53, I tie the fenders to the aftmost midship cleat and to the stern samson post. If i really need an extra fender, I run the line under the side curtains and tie it to the stanchion.

The cheapest I've seen them is at BOW.

These ones don't have the "grippers" to adjust how the fenders hange without having to redo the knot.

Pascal. I prefer the term 'frugal'. It leaves more dollars on the table for diesel and rum. Both integral aspects of my boating interest. I might add that the consumption of both is never done simultaneously.

The same company which sells MegaFenders also makes this type fender line holders. I wanted them for my boat - then learned the prices and quickly decided to look for alternative means. I don't like wrapping my lines around my teak (?) railings, but so far have not developed a better plan. If you find a reasonable solution - let us know.

well, then tie then to the stanchion base. that works... I use a total of 6 fenders when i dock on weekends, no problem. easy to adjust... cost nothing!

I normally use 4 fenders when at a dock and I do tie my lines to my wood handrail. But I have "soft cloths" that I wrap around the handrails before I tie the lines on (dark brown cloths, cut to about 6" wide and just long enough to go twice around the railing).
Have done this for 6 years now, the cloths "almost" match the wood color and have never had a bit of trouble with my varnish..

fenderhooks.com they are expensive but great, I use 7 on my 58LRC Really protects the rails. :)

I've used the regular old plastic fender straps- cheapo ones that function like those leather versions and they seem to work fine. They haven't yet marred the rail. But I have to admit those leather ones look really nice!

I too use the plastic fender staps. Why not use the plastic fender straps and glue on some lambs wool "pad" on the inside??? You can get the stuff at auto supply shops where it's sold as seat covers. Just a thought.

You can buy real lambswool pads in the paint dept at Home Depot. They are used to refinish hardwood floors.
