  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
53' MOTOR YACHT (1969 - 1988)
I am planning a trip up the bayous and rivers and was wondering if anyone has used "farm grade" diesel in teh boats. According to a fuel distributor, the only difference is a color die and $.44 a gallon tax...

Will put 500 gallons in my boat for $2.10 a gallon

Thats the difference - no tax paid. I'm told the same is true of #2 heating oil - exactly the same thing as the colored stuff you buy at the marina or gas station pump.

used to be different except in Fla. Diesel was supposed to be closer to #1 we had a tank at our shop in Pa. back when they had the odd even day BS we ran the cars and trucks on the #2 but they smoked like hell. There was no dye back then but the color of the fuel was quite a bit different I remember when you could actualy see thru the racor bowl without a light.
