  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
50' CONV -Series III (1990 - present)
I just bought a windlass to install on my '95 50'C.
I've done this installation on a couple of prevous boats & was not looking forward to running wires all over the boat. I just had a peak in the rope locker & what did I find? A very neatly bundled, heavy gauge wire set mounted to the bulkhead!!!!
So, Hatteras was thinking of me when they built the boat! Now I just need to find where the cable (3 wires inside) goes to in the engine room.
Any chance they pre wired up to the helm for the controll wires?

Should all be in the prints. The power leads terminate in the boxes where the battery switches are. Most likely you will need to put a ribbon fuse in place, but everythink is connected. The wiring for the switch should be numbered, match the number under the bridge. Not all had the control wiring installed.

Thanks Capt!
I was thinking the cable would terminate somewhere in the24v breaker panel on the forward ER bulkhead. I'll take a look where the battery switches are. I'll also sit down and look at my (the boat's) prints tonight.

I pulled out the blue prints & found the "24 VDC Bow Winch" shown next to the DC ships service disconnect switch. Still searching for any indication of wiring to the bridge. I'll take a look under the console tomorrow & see if I find something obvious.
I'll say being a custom home builder & knowing blueprints inside & out has no beneficial outcome for me understanding wiring diagrams http://www.samsmarine.com/forums/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif
LOL I think I need to go back to school

I can read a wiring diagram, but can't read a blueprint to save my life. Go figure.

look in or close to your port engine battery panel. there is a fuse in the battery panel for the windlas and there should be a three conductor switch wire from the rope locker to the console as well. if you can not find it try using a wire tracer to locate it. Radio Shack makes one that work well. if no luck give me a call.
