Hatteras Model
43' DOUBLE CABIN (1970 - 1984)
Anyone else watch this series??? Right now they're building a 95' Northern Marine trawler/fisherman. Was impressed by the battery banks they put in.... 2v batteries weighing over 200lbs each... Yikes.
Didn't see how many they ended up putting in.. Do know it's a 24v system the boat runs on... And it was a lot more than 12 batteries.....

At 10pm the show is about the building of an Ocean Alexander........

Thanks for the info. I'll set the DVR. Sounds interesting.

I was glued to that as well! It was interesting to me that they build the interior rooms in a shop then set them in the boat.

Not an uncommon practice, in fact Hatteras has and still does the same. Each cabin is built in a modular fashion down to the plumbing and wiring and then tabbed in to the hull.

Which is why some wring and plumbing is impossible to reach

I had no idea. We spend most of our weekends on houseboats here in Tennessee. Most things are very accessible. Hopefully we will have our Hatteras in the next year so we can experience the plumbing and wiring issues you mentioned.

We are very good friends with the captain and his wife who run the Northern Marine for their boss. The Northern Marine they had before this one was 84 ft. We spent some time on her while we were slip neighbors in Mexico and it was nicely done. But our friend said the building of the new ATLAS has been nothing short of a nightmare. More problems than I can list in the thread. Lawsuits, poor work, equipment and construction not done properly and on and on. So this nice, neat piece on TV was sugar coated to say the least. They are still having problems and the owner and our friend the captain are extremely frustrated with Northern Marine. So don't believe everything you hear and half of what you see. Back 10-15 years ago when Bruce Kessler had something to do with this builder, they were putting our very high quality boats. But with the economy and fluctuation of the dollar, this company has been in and out of business a few times.
