Yes, they're good to have. Those look like rebranded Isspros, so you might look at their website, but pyros are one of the best ways to figure out engine load.

I added combination boost/pryo gauges to my 43. In addition to anything else, they tell me when my bottom and gear are dirty. I see a rise in the gauges, especially the boost gauge for a particular rpm.
 
I have a set of them on my 36C. Bought from Isspro before Tony started selling them under his own name... they are extremely useful. I use the tachometers to get the rpms close side to side, and then the final few rpm by ear. But to decide how fast to go, I look at boost and EGT.

I would be interested to see what other forum members are seeing on cruise EGT and boost. Mine don't agree exactly, but I think at cruise I have about 10-11 pounds of boost and EGT of about 925-950. Anyone else?
 
On mine, I have between 15-17 boost and EGT's of 600 at a cruise of about 300 off of the pins on my 43.
 
Maybe combo pyro/boost gauge may be better bet? http://www.sbmar.com/R609-marine-boost-pyro-gauge-kit.php . The single gauge for twin engine on just the pyro is nice. I've been wanting to install these since Scrod told me the benefits of monitoring exhaust temperature many years ago. I just had the exhaust riser cleaned up last winter and saw for first time they already had ports for pyro gauge, so hopefully this winter. Thanks for posting.

Remember when you're doing these comparisons that there is a big difference between having the sensor before or after the turbo.

My 6bta's are 925-950 at 2400 RPM. The engines vary by about 10 degrees. Don't have boost gauges yet.

Right, Mine are after the turbo, I think. I have to look. I can't imagine it would be that temp before the turbo- probably more like 1500.
 
Doubtful. 900°ish pre-turbo sounds normal. Over 1300° before the turbo is usually meltdown territory.
 
Is there a preference to having the probe before or after the turbo? I would think before the turbo.
 
In Theory you'd do both banks separately before the turbo, and one sensor after.

In the real world before the turbo would be better, but as long as you have a baseline to work from either way will serve your purposes.
 
You must be right. I haven't looked at them in a few weeks.
 
The scale on mine is color coded green,orange,red. Definitely designed for after turbo.
