Does anyone know why the dry section of our exhaust system from the manifold to the shower head is stainless steel? The obvious answer is probably corrosion resistance but, that section is dry so, no salt water. Aren't truck exhaust systems mild steel? I need to replace mine on the 8V71 naturals in our boat. The prices for stainless steel are very expensive.

Thanks

I thought all naturally aspirated engines had wet exhaust risers. Bronze would be the material of choice. Where are you located? Are your risers insulated with blankets or some other covering? If not they either are too hot to ever touch or they are wet risers which are cool to touch during operation. The only place a wet riser gets hot, that you could touch, is right after the engine exhaust manifold for about four inches or so into the transition to wet riser.
