  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
41' CONVERTBLE-Series I (1964 - 1971)
I inherited a 6.5 hp motor from my father-in-law and have been struggling and fighting with it for the last couple of years. This weekend I found out the fuel connection has a crack in it. Not only did it leak, it was sucking air so it ran terribly. I always dreaded taking it out.

The model number is BE7RSG and I am having trouble finding a replacement part. My search found that it is a 1992 model and is classified as Commercial. I called a place in Connecticut but they couldn't find a part number in their data base or their old parts books.

Does any one have a good source for parts?

Try Johnston's Marina in Cheboygan, MI. Ask for Jerry (Johnston)...long timer...

marineparts.com has all the bits and pieces but those old 2 strokes are pretty simple. Just what is leaking? The fuel basically runs through a hose to the needlevalve in the carb, is mixed with air at that point, and then is blown up in the cylinder. Out comes burnt oil and gas. Sounds like maybe a carb gasket, bad crimp on the fuel hose or split hose. Am I getting close?

Morning Craig. It is leaking at the fitting the fuel hose connects to the engine. The plastic fitting that holds the connector is cracked.

The only "plastic" I can imagine would be the inlet/outlet for the fuel pump. Sierra makes OEM replacement pumps (they're not expensive) and this might solve the problem. Search at marineparts.com for fuel parts and you should find a picture that looks like yours! Good "putting"

aqua has the right idea....but the plastic piece you mention is the one on the engine where the tank hose connects to the engine...has a snap type fastener ???.

If you can't get the correct connector, any connector combination (engine/tank) will work as long as the tube nipple fits the hose size....Bring your connectors to any marine store as a sample and buy a male and female pair that is closest....it may not fit on the engine housing/cowl perfectly but who cares....usually the types available are Yamaha (fits Mercury), OMC (Johnson and Evenrude) and one other I don't recall. But they need to be PAIRS as one type will not properly connect to another manufacturer....

And if you have running problems, 95% of the time all you'll need is a new needle valve...maybe $5 or so ...as soon as water/condensation passes it can cause pitting/sticking....I just replaced one in a 1999 15 HP Mercury and the outboard is sitting in my basement. For some reason even the newer style needle valve with a rubber tip ALSO can stick like the old "stainless" metal end. I don't know what they accomplished by changing tip materials. When the needle valve sticks, the float is also stuck, often OFFF.

If you are talking about the plastic fitting at the end of the fuel hose that attaches to the engine, you can buy those at Wal-Mart or anywhere that sells six gallon tanks for outboards.
