I am cutting down my bait station cabinet by 10" (cut horizontally out of the center) to make mezzanine seating. I have been taking pics and will post in a different thread. I am using epoxy to glass the top and bottom back together and to fill in where the cab doors were. I am using System 3 quick fair epoxy filler over west system. I plan to use a white primer and then paint the entire cockpit with awlgrip at a later date. My question is, what kind of primer should I use and where can I get some? It needs to be compatible with epoxy and awlgrip.

Thank you.....Tobb

Awlgrip will have a primer for this as they are a paint system. Look at their site or consult their local tech people.

awlgrip 545 primer.

Oh yeah a little tip sand that 545 with in a day or two because after that it as hard as a rock and sand's like one ;)

Hey show some pictures of it, sounds like a Interesting Idea!

I love it!!!!

I'd add a few of my own I've collected, but having been blocked from another website for such commentary, I'll abstain and stick with boating....
However I will copy the quote and send to about 25 people on my private e-mail list.

Good luck with the fiberglass job. Be prepared to get the epoxy fiberglass perfect before paint application because unlike traditional paints awlgrip and other two part polyurethanes highlight rather than mask imperfections. But Epoxy like West System is STRONG and provides a great, strong permanent foundation with excellent adhesion to original surfaces.
Other threads here have indicated, I believe, other two part systems are easier to apply by brush/roller...I used what is now called PERFECTION from Interlux and it was easy to use on horizontal decks, difficult on vertical surfaces to avoid sags, and VERY susceptible to dulling apparently do to drying and humidity conditions. Placing a cover over the painting area to work under can reduce premature drying if in sunlight and forestall evening dew effects late in the day.
