Hey all, has anyone used the Epoch batteries? I am planning to add 4 of the Essential 12V 460 AH.
Batteries. I have been trying to contact them, with no luck, no one answers the phone, they have not responded to an email question. And the price went up $200.00 per battery in the last week.

Not sure I want to deal with them.. what the hey..

Ok finally was able to talk to someone at Epoch.. Even though Epoch is a
American co., all of there batteries are made in China. There is not a Lithium Ion Phosphate manufacturer in the US.. so, with the new tariffs in place , the import duty went from 3% to over 50 %. So this explains the
Price increase. The interesting thing is, the LiTime batteries, that seem to be ok..have not gone up at all as yet. Probably subsidized by the government.. I think the Epoch is a better battery, but for 4 batteries the difference is almost $1000.00. ..

I have a 70’ hatt with a 20kw Victron inverter Charger system with Victron Batteries. 990 Amp hours at 48 volts, something like 50kw. I did a lot of research before having Scott Bickwid Install my entire system and Glad that I did. I have had no problem and I run my entire boat including Air conditioning for many hours. When I was researching and determined that Victron was the way to go, I said to myself, if I’m going to make an overall investment like this, why skimp and go with Cheap batteries. If I was you, i would just spend the extra money and go all Victron, You’ll be happy in the end. The Hatts have a very complex electrical system, you cant replace a life, have it installed by The Best.

Lithium batteries made by the chicoms. What could possibly go wrong? I ll stick to traditional batteries, its not like space and weight is a conc rn on out hatts

Good points.. but…I am sure the Victron batteries are made in China as well. I plan to go all Victron for the total system, except batteries.
I pmd Scott with no response as yet..

Hello Wilson! Sounds like you are on a great journey, and you won't regret being less dependent on the generators when it's all done.

I have a '70 Hatt as well, although, only have half of Addie-Kat's inverters 10kw (I'm drooling) and 1600A@24V of Victron batteries (8-200A@24V). I made a costly mistake. I admit that I started with another brand of LiFePo4 batteries 2400A at 12V. They were all unboxed, and about to be tied down. I even went so far as to swage all the 4/0 cables to connect them (but didn't yet)! I went through the final ABYC design process and they failed meet the spec, no matter the "communications compatibility" and the only one that did was Victron. So I took a big gulp and I sent them all back. I learned an expensive lesson, and a whole lot about the Victron's integrated BMS's and how the Lynx Distributor and CerboGx is a system with many protective precautions. I second the advice of calling Scott ASAP, he's the Hatteras+Victron whisperer. I wish I would have met him sooner!

Fast forward, now our Dual Quattro split phase system works great! The last phases of the plan are near finished, adding 2-190A Balmar alternators with Zeus Controllers, and 3kW of solar (with Victron MPPTs).

Although these old Hatts were designed to either be plugged into shore or generators, the Victron tech and batteries breathes new life into them. p.s. It may surprise you, but Victron batteries aren't made in China, but in India (but their MPPTs are).

Looking forward to hearing more!

Is there any issue ''charging'' Lithium Batteries with the existing systems? Alternators or battery chargers.

Im still trying to figure out why this thread was supposedly locked down. Everyone was trying to help a fellow boater make the right decisions, by giving them as much information as we can. Hang in there Wilson.

I think someone mentioned Boatsb. Apparently his status is supposed to be secret.

That someone was me, I was simply letting Wilson know why he had not heard from BoatsB. That post is gone, What did i do wrong??

I guess you have to send a PM next time. Apparently, the secret cannot be written in any post where everyone can read it.

I see the post delete button is alive and well.

Where in the rules does it talk about censorship? Can’t find it.

Its not about from being across the hall; rather from being across the aisle.

**** and I just had our posts removed on the Lithium battery thread for telling the truth about ***** being banned.

***** is a good guy and a wealth of information. PERIOD.

Armchair vets seem to hold all the power here.... OHWEEEE! "Im on top of the world MA!!!"
