  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
50' CONV -Series I (1966 - 1969)
There's a post over on Face book liveaboards about a catamaranthat set off its EPIRB last night somewhere near the Turk and Caicos. CG called the former owner of the boat because the info on the registration wasn't changed. This is a poignant reminder to keep your registration current and the phone contact needs to be someone that knows where you are and what your current route is. If the contact phone is the cell in your pocket they might not come looking for you

That's unbelieveable. When I consider what I spend on safety equipment it just defies logic that someone wouldn't keep that information current. Thousands of dollars into the wind and lives in the balance. Amazing. :p

Its just the Darwin effect. I have no problem if the people on the vessel who didn't update the info are lost. I have a big problem with the loss of life and resources of the brave rescuers.

Scott, did you mean candidates for the Darwin Awards? http://www.darwinawards.com/darwin/

Darwin Effect is quite different...

But there are also those poor souls who through ignorance did not update all of the electronic identifications. Loss of life is a pretty steep sentence for that.

Didn't know there was another Darwin effect. But that's the one I meant.

It may sound cruel but ignorance is not an excuse elsewhere. Why at sea? It may also ease crowding in some areas.
