I know this has been discussed, and I have seen people talk about Rustoleum oil based enamel, and think I'm going to use that and I like the ability to use a brush and not have all of the overspray in the ER. What I am curious about is how it holds up on the hot engine. I thought I read somewhere not to apply it if the surface gets over 200 degrees. What are peoples experience and if you could tell me which paint exactly you use that would be great. I may be looking at the wrong one! Thanks.

I used Rustoleum Industrial (aka High Performance) Spray enamel on my engines about 10 years ago and it's held up great. I believe it was Mr. Bruekner who suggested using aluminum foil to cover the hoses and parts I didn't want paint on - best piece of advice I can pass on if spraying (make sure battery switch off). I put cut up cardboard boxes in places I didn't want paint to go as I went (under oil pan, etc) and had no problem with over spray. Get the hand held spray paint can holder that allows you to depress the tip by squeezing handle - it takes like 5 cans of paint per engine and it's allot on your finger to hold down. Like all good work, prep is everything.

Great thanks. That's what I thought I read. Glad to hear it holds up well. You used it on exhaust manifolds too? I know next to the engine it will probably burn off, but looking to see if that's your experience. Thanks again. Want to make em look pretty! Been wire wheeling my @ss off!

That particular rustoleum will burn off on the exhaust manifolds. You will need to get the high heat spray paint to make sure that holds up.

Thats what I thought. Thanks Rusty.

POR 15 engine paint is excellent, lays down beautifully and sticks to damn near anything.

John, I sent you a private message.

Rust Bullet is more user friendly than Por15

Thanks Rusty. I will call.

In what way? I am very familiar with Por15 and am happy with my results, but I am always open to a better way.

One part, no special prep required.

The por-15 engine paint is one part too. It lays down beautifully, looks like it was sprayed.
